I finished Cloud Atlas today thanks to my fairly spacious schedule (I end up at school for about 7 hours a day, but only have class for 3 or 4 of those hours), and it was fucking fantastic. If you haven't read it you should, and if you have and didn't like it, you're wrong

i love learning languages, i wish it was easier to do outside of a class format! Japanese is a fun language, i'd say it was less infuriating, but i took it for just one semester, as opposed to 4 years of french, so that could have a lot to do with it.

Part of what makes Japanese fun is that the class is filled with people who know at least a little, or who speak Chinese or Korean, or any number of other languages with at least a few similarities. It's incredibly refreshing to be submersed in such rich diversity compared to Frederick which was (understandably) pretty much entirely homogeneous culturally.
