[Point of time in canon from which the character is taken] Following the events of chapter 414. As he is taken from during the following battle, he is badly wounded - he was impaled by several swords and hastily healed, then got most of the flesh round his collarbone ripped away and was healed once again - and is suffering from severe blood loss.
[Background info] Sasuke had a mostly happy early childhood, as the second son of Uchiha Fugaku and Mikoto. Despite living in the shadow of his prodigious elder brother Itachi and struggling to gain recognition from their father, Sasuke grew up idolising his brother and was a happy, vivacious little boy.
Tragedy struck when he was eight years old. Returning home late, he found the Uchiha compound dark and utterly silent. Exploring, he found first his slaughtered clan strewn about the streets, and then the dead bodies of his parents, freshly killed, with his older brother standing over them. He was forced to watch their deaths first-hand through his brother’s genjutsu technique, which caused significant mental trauma and ensured that he would remember it for a very, very long time. Itachi explained that the ultimate sharingan power, the ‘mangekyou sharingan’, would only manifest in those who had killed their closest friend. He commanded Sasuke to live a ‘long and unsightly life’ and gain that power, in order to then come to him and battle. With the knowledge that he must now hate Itachi and live to kill him, and with his whole world in pieces around him, Sasuke passed out.
Betrayed, in pain and now completely alone, he woke up in the hospital as the sole survivor of the Uchiha clan still in Konoha. He then continued to live in the empty district through his academy life. He was always seen as the ‘cool’, attractive boy by the girls in the class, and many boys resented him for his looks, skill and popularity. Sasuke himself only concentrated on one thing - becoming stronger - and ignored his classmates. This nearly caused him to fail the final genin test set by Kakashi, when he didn’t consider working with Naruto or Sakura to retrieve the bells, leaving them to fend for themselves. He eventually failed and was reprimanded about his methods despite his obvious skill, and so helped Naruto when later commanded not to, causing them to win the actual test. Thus he was assigned to Team Seven. This was the first time Sasuke actually realised or was even shown that working as a team is sometimes better than trying to go it alone.
On their first major mission, Sasuke both awakened his sharingan and put himself in the way of several fatal attack meant for his teammates, one of which left him in a near-death state. By this point it had become reflex to do so - he claimed his body moved on its own.
It was in the Chuunin exams that Sasuke realised a fundamental flaw of the sharingan - if the body cannot keep up with the eyes, the sharingan is useless. In the Forest of Death, they were hunted down and attacked by Orochimaru, one of the Legendary Sannin, who desired Sasuke’s body and bloodline limit as a base for his possession technique. He injected Sasuke with cursed blood, giving him the Cursed Seal of Heaven. This seal amplified negative feelings until he would go into killing rages - he nearly maimed another genin before being stopped by Sakura. Sasuke fell into fevered hallucinations, wherein he was confronted with a version of himself who accused him of being weak and unable to protect those close to him, revealing one of Sasuke’s motivations to gain power other than revenge. This was also Orochimaru’s way of cutting Sasuke off from the positive influence of his teammates, especially considering the strong friendship developing between him and Naruto. The seal returned in the preliminary matches, although Sasuke managed to defeat his opponent whilst suppressing the seal by using no chakra and pure willpower.
The final exam showed his first major improvement, after a month’s training. After pursuing the Sand-nin from the stadium following their attack, he soon reached his limit and - enraged by Gaara’s taunts - used the curse seal to gain more power. This action caused him to collapse, and only the timely arrival of the other two members of Team Seven saved him. Sakura was taken out when she put herself between Sasuke and Gaara, and when Sasuke tried to step back into the fight to, as he put it, stop any more of his precious people being hurt or killed, Naruto managed to neatly pull the battle away from Sasuke, who was forced to watch in awe - and anger - at Naruto’s sudden increase in power.
Things seemed to be settling back to normal when Itachi reappeared in Konoha. When Sasuke heard, he left immediately to find him. However, his subsequent attack on his brother was nothing short of complete failure, and he ended up with broken ribs, a snapped wrist, and was sent into a coma by another Tsukiyomi - the technique used at the massacre. From that point onwards, he changed. Now resenting Naruto for his unpredictable and massive leaps in power, he challenged him and was faced with Naruto’s new technique, rasengan, which appeared far stronger than his chidori. It was at this point that the bodyguards of Orochimaru, appeared to bring him back to the Hidden Sound. Whilst at first he resisted, when they showed the power of their own seals he made the decision to leave. He reasoned that he was not gaining power by staying where he was, and resolved to take Orochimaru up on his offer regardless of the end result. That night he left Konoha, and was put through a death-like sealing technique by the Four whilst his curse seal evolved.
He was pursued by Naruto, and they finally met and fought on the border of Fire Country. He acknowledged Naruto as his best friend, but by this point that meant more that it was him he needed to kill to gain the Mangekyou than any real admission. He attempted to kill Naruto by using a chidori to pierce his chest, but was then forced to face the Nine-tailed Fox’s chakra. He gained three ‘commas’ in the sharingan for both his eyes, making his combat ability improve greatly mid-fight and allowing him to survive against an enraged Naruto. The battle finally escalated into a final confrontation, where Sasuke revealed the second level of his curse seal - a dark, winged form capable of much more than his normal body. They clashed one last time with Sasuke emerging as the victor, but Naruto had scratched a line through his headband much like the line across Itachi’s, marking him as a missing-nin. In the end, Sasuke was unable to kill Naruto, and left for Sound vowing never to follow Itachi’s path of murder. Because of the delay, Orochimaru had switched to another body, which gave Sasuke three years saving grace in which to train.
Two and a half years later, he was still in Sound and training with Orochimaru. Significantly more powerful through a combination of forbidden techniques and what Sakura assumed to be drug treatments, he began to plan his escape from Orochimaru. He found and selected three other Sound-nin during this time. However, his old team once again found him before he was ready to put the plan into action, and he emotionlessly drove them away with a display of power and complete apathy, even threatening to finish what he’d started in the Valley of the End and kill Naruto. He was stopped by Orochimaru before he could do anything drastic, accepting that they would be useful in killing Akatsuki, and they escaped away to another base.
He was next seen with Orochimaru on an open plain, having just defeated what seem to be thousands of enemies single-handed. Thrilled by this power, Orochimaru was nevertheless disappointed that he hasn’t killed a single one of them, still adhering to his morals and refusal to kill anyone but Itachi. Soon after this, Orochimaru grew weak, prompting Sasuke to begin the next stages of his plan. He killed Orochimaru and used his sharingan to reverse the mental absorption, taking control of their joined minds during the body-switch and thus gaining all of Orochimaru’s powers rather than the other way around.
He then gathered the three he chose - Suigetsu Houzuki, Karin and Juugo - and formed them into a squad designed for one purpose - to hunt down and kill Itachi Uchiha. He named them ‘Snake’, and they left Sound behind. During the hunt, Sasuke was found by Deidara and Tobi, two members of Akatsuki, and he engaged Deidara in a battle to the death. This showcased Sasuke’s improved genjutsu abilities. The battle ended when Deidara killed himself in a huge explosion, which Sasuke only survived by sacrificing Manda, Orochimaru’s most powerful summoned snake, to take the blast for him. At this point, a larger squad from Konoha began to pursue them with the same goal in mind - find Itachi, and thus find Sasuke. However, Hebi found Itachi first, and Sasuke began the final fight against his brother.
Sasuke showed extreme improvement since his last encounter with Itachi, the two almost evenly matched through genjutsus, speed and taijutsu. Itachi then revealed that his reason for keeping Sasuke alive was not to make him a worthy enemy but to take his eyes when they met again, which would give him an eternal mangekyou sharingan - the normal version causing their user to become blind. He trapped Sasuke in Tsukiyomi once again and played through ripping out Sasuke’s eyes, part-way through taking the second when Sasuke managed to defeat the technique. By the end, completely out of chakra and options, Sasuke was taken over by Orochimaru, who was promptly and unceremoniously destroyed and sealed away by Itachi’s technique. This freed Sasuke from the curse seal permanently, and also removed his last hope for victory. After advancing, Itachi merely smiled, apologised and tapped his forehead before collapsing beside him, dead. In shock, Sasuke still managed to smile darkly before passing out next to Itachi’s body.
He woke up in a hideout controlled by Tobi - revealed as his clan’s leader, Madara. Despite his suspicion, Madara proceeded to tell Sasuke that everything he thought about his brother was a lie: that Itachi had done everything in an attempt to stop a civil war and keep Sasuke alive. After being faced with Itachi’s claims during their fight, which vastly contradicted Madara’s, Sasuke rejected the information, passing out from stress. He eventually accepted it.
Knowing now that it was Konoha’s elders who had ordered the slaughter of his clan, and that Itachi was merely another pawn in a larger game who had been forced to choose between his clan and his country, Sasuke’s world was once again turned upon its head. He chose to join Madara and the Akatsuki, planning to use their admittedly weakened support to attack Konoha and kill the elders who were responsible for everything. To do so, he and his renamed squad ‘Hawk’ went to capture the Eight-tails.
The following battle turned out to be much more difficult than they had thought, and Sasuke was nearly killed twice. The only reason he survived those times was through the semi-sacrificial intervention of first Karin and then Juugo as they used their unique powers to repair his wounds enough to put him back into the fight.
As they were brought to the brink of defeat, all four giving their all to protect the others, Sasuke realised that he had formed bonds with this new team, just as he had with Team Seven. This revelation - that they would give anything to help him and vice versa - enabled him to keep going. [He is taken from the point of this revelation.]
[Personality] Sasuke is above all a loner by choice. Being kept above his peers by his circumstances and his ‘elite’ status suited his single-minded ambition: bonds slow you down, relationships distract you from what must be done. He rejects any claim of familiarity or friendship, the only exception to this rule being his eventual and hard-won acknowledgement of Naruto as his best friend and rival. Despite this, he works well in a team if given a goal to aim towards. That aim generally does have to tie in to his personal ambition to really receive his attention, though.
Starting from the massacre, his main goal has been getting revenge for his clan, and even after the death of Itachi and the revelations thereafter, it seems that he has merely transferred his grudge to the elders rather than truly resolve it. It is very likely that he is so set in his ways, it will take a great deal of effort to break him away from this crusade. However, the fact that another of his aims was to become strong enough to protect those close to him shows that he isn’t completely lost to his need for vengeance.
He is distant and cold to the point of rudeness, and answers curtly and concisely if he must. Tending to avoid honorifics altogether, there are very few people who have earned his respect. He can occasionally be sarcastic or amused, usually at the expense of others, but this is a rare occurrence. He has shown outstanding acts of self-sacrifice through the series in protecting his teammates, but always dismisses them by saying they weren’t conscious actions but reflex. Despite his dismissal of relationships, he has formed strong bonds with both his original team and his selected squad, Hebi, and he only recently realised just how much they mean to him and how far they’ll go to see him safe. That he remembers Team Seven as they were as he works this out shows that no matter how much he may suppress his feeelings, he hasn’t managed to lose them either.
[Abilities] Sasuke is good at everything except moving on and getting over it. It's why everyone hates him. He probably can’t knit, either. Battle-wise, Sasuke's abilities place him in the elite of the five countries. Besides his standard repertoire of ninja powers - bare-handed fighting, marksmanship with bladed throwing weapons, and what amount to advanced althetic and gymnastic abilities - Sasuke has the Uchiha affinity for fire-type techniques and the sharingan, a bloodline limit that alters his eyes for combat. When using the sharingan, Sasuke sees everything practically in slow motion. He can react faster if his body will allow it, and he sees chakra as a variety of colours across his vision, rendering genjutsus and subterfuge nearly useless. He can also create illusions that drain his target’s willpower or cause fear, as well as the standard illusions. The sharingan’s main power is that of muscle mimicry - it will copy any movement he sees instantly with enough precision that he can lip-read in the dark. This includes techniques and fighting styles.
He has a second elemental affinity with lightning, allowing him to use chidori, a lightning-type current technique that can be used in a variety of ways - cutting, a current to stun or disarm, even a sword or needles for precise strikes.
During the two-year training in the Hidden Sound, Sasuke learned to fight with a sword rather than his normal barehanded style. He also signed a summoning contract with the Snakes, although that shouldn't work here. He received the ability to use his brother’s mangekyou sharingan. He also developed his own version, which so far enables him to immobilise a target and force obedience through the mangekyou in his right eye. Whether this is Tsukiyomi or another technique isn’t yet confirmed. He can use Amaterasu under extreme circumstances, although his reluctance to use it otherwise says more about his personality than his ability.
[Other important facts] He has come from the point of a severe paradigm shift - the acceptance that bonds can strengthen you rather than hold you back. Whether this sticks or not is currently up in the air. He’s used to living on his own or with a small number of trusted people, so he’ll probably find the school oppressively crowded until he settles down.

A school? What do you stand to gain from bringing a wounded ninja to a school.
What’s your problem? Extensive internal bleeding, multiple stab wounds. The fact that I seem to have been taken away from a squad that is in a fight for their lives. The usual.
Your mom. I don’t know what you mean to achieve by using her as a petty taunt. My mother is dead by the orders of old, paranoid beaurocrats for the crime of being an Uchiha. It is useless to talk about her because I haven’t had a family for eight years, and that is never going to change.
You’re not so special, you know. I disagree.
Oh yeah? See if I care. You started i-... whatever. I’m not going to humiliate myself arguing with a piece of paper.
You're accepted! Please ask the parrot for further information!
I'll figure it out for myself.
