[Locals] Beer Tasting!

Dec 17, 2009 00:18

Get yo'self to mah place for a titanic battle between American Belgian-style Ale and a true Belgian (Trappist) Ale!

We have Ommegang Abbey Ale and Westmalle Dubbel on offer and we'll see which is better this Friday.

They have the same scores on BeerAdvocate... but will they score the same with my palate? Only time (and taste) will tell.

I just flex my "Belgian Ale" muscle. It's very vascular.

Ommegang - A rich, strong, thick-tasting beer. It has a decent amount of body and a more than decent amount of flavor. The alcohol is still taste-able, but not overpowering, definitely below the flavor of the beer itself. I give this beer an A-. It's good, but not excellent.

Westmalle - Has a great flavor indicative of its relatively antiquated origin. This is really good. REALLY good. It has just the right amount of flavor to cover the alcohol, and, better yet, a lot of complexity with some fruity flavors as well. I give it an A, since it's not perfect... but it's really amazing, nonetheless.
