I notice the stroller thing, too. It is strange to me, especially because I have a hard time getting my almost two-year-old to stay in his stroller. He wants "more walk" and "more running." We put his in the stroller for parts of long walks when he gets tired, but due to our city-dwelling lifestyle, we walk more than most people.

No idea on the strollers, but I think some parents do it because a 7 year old isn't walking fast enough...but that's just a thought since NYers walk really fast. It IS kinda creepy though.
