The Immortal Seven is (always 'is,' never 'are') the secretive cabal behind the civil order of a city-state in the Samathic Confederation (the same setting as "Ota Discovers Fire"). The badge of office is a magic artifact, each of the seven is unique. Members are a little like secret police, and a little like superheroes. Their relationship to the artifacts is similarly ambiguous.

The story is largely clean ()-:), with the possible exception of some excerpts from the pulp pamphlets circulated in the seedier parts of town, featuring implausible speculations about the Immortal Seven's secret practices.

That project has kind of foundered. It was gonna be a short-short for the Circlet website. An always-on is someone who keeps their augmented-reality goggles on all the time. I liked the characters, but I wasn't able to get the tone to work like I wanted. I'll let it sit on the back burner for a while and see if anything happens to it.

You've actually already seen it, Naj. It's one of my stabs at producing Real Porn stories to sell to magazines. Still haven't actually sent this one out, though, though I do think it's pretty good.

Here's the intro:

I got a call from Angela the other day. She's an old friend from college. She's one of those nexuses--people who seem to know everybody, everywhere. She said: "Do you know Gina ( ... )
