Booth doesn’t do this. He doesn’t get drunk and land on doorsteps. Yet here he is and he doesn’t know how he got here in the first place.
He thinks he was on a date before this, it had gone well, he supposes. Not too well if he has ended up here evidently. He recalls dinner, light conversation and thinking about her. It’s impossible not to think of her, she is too great a part of his life for that. He can’t be sure but he believes the date involved karaoke? Or is that just some chemical reaction in his brain? His thoughts turning to her off their own accord. Bones would know, she knows such things.
Stupid coma! He was fine before it; he was fine suppressing his inner self or whatever Sweets thinks he was doing. Now he has gone and laid all his cards on the table and he has lost the hand. He feels strange standing there, he shouldn’t be there but he doesn’t want to be alone right now and he doesn’t know where else to go.
She has saved his life and he has done the same too many times to keep score, then why must she refuse to save him from himself now? She says he needs to be protected from her when all he longs to do is kiss her until she sees sense.
Everyone else sees the chemistry, its undeniable; she chooses to state that chemistry is a science and not a phenomenon. He smiles to himself; Bones was never one to be dictated by others. She had slapped him once, told him to get a brain. He really wouldn’t be here if he were in possession of common sense right now.
He had decided to never go down that path once. He had told Cam work couldn’t be personal but here he was again, blurring the boundaries he had created for his own sake. It wouldn’t do anyone any good, he would regret it when sober but he is tired of being alone. He doesn’t want to feel rejected anymore.
He feels awkward ringing the bell, he has stood her before but tonight he isn’t sure of his reception. He looks up as the door opens.
“Seeley.” It isn’t a question; she isn’t surprised to see him there. It is almost as though she has been expecting him.
“Cam, I....”
He doesn’t finish, he can’t. He just kisses her instead.
