Actually, I never had heard of him before.

I think one of the other mainstreams excuse is fear of pissing off the sponsors. :p

True, Visa, Coca Cola, Samsung, Panasonic, etc big named Olympic sponsors and some of them are getting a bit worried about the backlash they've been facing for STILL sponsoring the Olympic games. BUT, on the other hand, it's NEWS. Should news be edited or filtered to accommodate sponsors? Oh what am I talking? This is the USA, corporations are considered people. :( Still, I think there comes a point when you HAVE to report NEWS. Keeping something hidden doesn't mean it's not happening, it just means eventually when they are FORCED to cover it---because it becomes so big they will have too---people will say "why weren't you covering this before?" Some of the genocides in Africa were covered in non-American news media, but American news? Crickets.

Unfortunately, many South Africans do not follow Bishop Tutu's leadership in this regard. Many there believe that lesbians can be "cured" if they just have sex with a man and a lot of men take this a step further by doling out this "cure" themselves, i.e. "corrective rape." And this isn't just a guy grabbing a woman as she comes out of lesbian bar. Sometimes parents have this done to their own children! So just don't be suckered into thinking that South Africa is particularly progressive in this area because same-sex marriage is recognized there. Then again, wiping out apartheid did not end racial inequality either. Changing policy does not necessarily change people. Not right away, anyway. Besides, laws don't mean much if they aren't enforced.

oh i know, unfortunately!! I also know there's the belief by some people raping a baby will cure AIDS....then there's the evangelical shaman Ernest Angley from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio who has gone to Africa several times proclaiming to have CURED groups of people's AIDS by just waving his hands over them! SMDH It INFURIATES ME that people with an education take advantage of uneducated people to perpetuate their OWN hatred and prejudices!

I know about baby rape too.

My mother used to watch Ernest Angely on tv when I was a kid. Soooo creepy! My mother was into that kind of stuff. She had serious issues. I don't think my dad let her send them any money though.
