I'm moving to Melbourne next year. About that. I've only been to Melbourne twice (In a space of like, three months) and that was last year. I'm going again from Thursday night (6th of Oct) to Monday the 10th of Oct

I don't know what the living cost is in Brisbane but I don't think it's as high as Melbourne's (don't quote me on that, I just remembering reading Sydney is the highest, followed by Melbourne?). Anyway, it's every yuppie's dream to be in St Kilda or the Elwood/Elsternwick, or Fitzroy or Brunswick or Prahan or South Yarra area, but they are also quite pricey. Closer to the city, the more you pay. That's only on my side of the city though, I have no idea what it's like on the other side. =)
I'm excited you're moving! Are you going to be alone/living alone?
Hmm true, true. I'll be staying in St. Kilda this weekend just to get a bit more of a feel for Melbourne OUTSIDE of the city. I'd be even content with anything that's bayside? What is that like? Aren't you in a little bayside area mijigy?
Dude, I'm excited I'm moving! Yeah, I'll be living alone... well, somewhat, I'll have my kitty.
Like Sam said - Melbourne is the second most expensive city in Aus.
Anywhere near the city is pretty damn pricey and the places that aren't are usually the shonky ends of suburbs (like Windsor opposed to South Yarra) which are filled with commission flats.
I'd suggest 15-20 mins out of the city and although they're still pricey, the cheaper parts are still half decent. Pick a suburb that has tram lines running through it - like Essendon or Moonee Ponds, or even Bundoora (for a cheaper but still nice area) that way you have public transport to wherever you want to go right on your door step, so to speak!
You might want to consider share accommadation (if you haven't already) so it's all a bit cheaper, but that's only if you're okay with the idea of living with (initially) strangers
I've seen pictures of Bundoora and it looks peaceful. Good tip though about the tram lines. I probably won't have a car because I am so in love with Melbourne's tram system and easyness to get everywhere.
Hmm, I'm looking at seeing if any of my friends here in Brisbane are Melbourne-inclined and if they're interested in joining me on my travels. That would probably be about as far as share accommodation as I'd go. I've been told share accom is the biggest Russian Wench ever if it's with people you don't know.
