Actually, while I loved Brokeback and wanted it to win, Crash is an amazing money as well. We're actually using it in my colleges diversity training courses. I'm glad it got the honnor.
I'm going to the Kodak theater today to see if it's listed as the winner on the wall yet.
Crash is just a feel-good movie about racism that actually empowers the stereotypes rather than break them down, it is traditional "white-mans-burden" BS, we should be beyond that as a society. And it is not about issues, its about quality. And Crash did not have any. If Hollywood was going to wuss out, they should have at least given it to Good Night and Good Luck, or Capote, both of which were ten times better than Crash. The Academy is still stuck in "black and white," like giving the best song award to three 6 mafia, to seem politically correct, but when rubber hits the road they get scared. Crash was so uncontroversial, Strom Thurmond would agree with its message. I'm not saying it was a necessarily bad movie but not oscar material, and to be honest I am surprised it even got a nomination, it was completely forgettable
( ... )
I believe the lack of even a nomination for DOOM THE MOVIE clearly reflects societal attitudes towards the glorious slacker culture of gaming and an underlying fear to admit the violent nature in us all. They're being too sympathetic towards minorities like imps and cyberdemons just to avoid being labeled racist, while these monsters are tearing holes in our beloved space time continuum and also possibly american flag. Nevermind the innovative use of first person shooter cinematography.
