1. When I do attempt pincurls, the curl is too thick to pin down without leaving a mark. Any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong?

2. I bought some Solo clips, thinking they're what you use for fingerwaves. Am I totally wrong, or can these be used? How and where do you pin the curl, then, without messing it up?

Thanks for the help!

1) You might be using too large a section of your hair, especially if you have thick hair. Many pin curls are done with 1x1" sections of your hair. You can use thicker sections for a looser curl. I only slide the clip over one section of the curl-through the center of the curl then onto the part of the curl closest to your roots. I've seen some people put the clip across the whole curl, but that doesn't hold as well and can be problematic if you are pinning a bulky curl.

2) I don't know what you mean by Solo clips. I use clips like these for pin curls, and either these or these for finger waves.

Thanks for the pincurl advice...I might have to do that, because I don't have thick hair, but I have a LOT of it.

The first clips for finger waves is what I'm talking about :)

Yeah, I would try using smaller sections. If you still want a looser curl, just make the curls larger in diameter. By the way, if you don't already use the cheater method of wrapping the curl around a cylindrical object then sliding it off and pinning it, you might want to give it a try. It's easier to get those pesky ends in, and all the curls come out the same size. It makes it easier to switch up sizes of curls too.

For finger waves, you clip the wave either right on the ridge or just past the ridge. I am still not good at doing it without messing it up, or doing finger waves at all. They are HARD to do on yourself, and even harder to learn on yourself. I suggest practicing on someone else to get it down, then trying to apply that knowledge to your own head.

Haha - cheater method, love it!

(I use a mascara tube!)

Hello! I have that same problem with my pin curls...my hair is thick thick thick. I usually do barrel shaped pin curls for this reason. Just make sure to put a pin in on both sides of the curl so they don't fall out
