FINALLY

Feb 15, 2008 10:48

I have been trying to remember a certain book for years. I finally found it...

Outside, by Andre Norton

I read this when I was eleven and on an exchange program in France, the less said about which the better, but the memory of the book popped into my head a few years ago, and I could not find it for anything. I was pretty sure it was by Andre Norton ( Read more... )

And that book was the only book I ever found there the main character had my name--spelled correctly!

I love your icon; is that from The Neverending Story? (If not, shows you how long it's been since I've seen it.)

I don't even remember the character's name (well, I guess I do now); just the fox. Go figure.

Yes, it is. :) This icon is from the Neverending Story, too.

I was just really impressed by the fact that, look! My name! Nothing ever had my name on it as a kid. I'd never heard of Andre Norton before, either, but I was even more impressed later when I found out who she was.

This gives me a couple of random thoughts:

1) thanks for reminding me of Andre Norton, I haven't really thought about her in a few years, and I used to be enamoured by her. I even got to have tea with her and all her cats (she was the crazy cat lady of the town i lived in from 7th to 10th grade).

2)There is a book that I can remember all sorts of plot points on, but have no idea of the author or title or anything. I wish there was a means of searching with this info.

What were the plot points? I realize odds are poor that I'd recognize it, but now I'm curious. :)

May as well go for it, there are 2 of them.
1 was I think a short story in an anthology. Basic premise was that the supreme-being had allowed the assitstant to take on more duties, and the assistant entered human into the book of intelligent species. The requirement for this was developing nuclear power. However, when the supremem being was revieiwing the assistant's work, Humans had to be crossed off. We were the only species in the history of existance to develop nuclear capabilities on our planet instead of doing all of the refinement of techniques in the safety of space.
The second one will come back into my head later. Now that i'm thinking about it I'm blanking.

depending on if you have a card to any of the non-boston libraries... http://library.minlib.net/record=b1281136 lists some other libraries with it
