I pretty much cried when Bob Dylan was featured in a Victoria's Secret commercial, and then hear a Jimi Hendrix song be used - just awful. Pisses me off that they sell out like that!
Walk the Line was impressive, but yeah, why did Reese win? Oh yeah, because June Carter and Johnny Cash had died not so long ago when that movie was made. It's an Academy rule, it appears. *rolls eyes*
see, i totally missed dylan and victoria! and i'm pretty damn glad i did. what the hell was the man thinking? it's not as if he needs the dough or needs to rebute his career. curious man.

i have to agree with you. it's also academy rule to give it to the actor/actress who hasn't much time left here i.e. alan arkin.
But if that's the case, how come the Oscar didn't go to Peter O'Toole?
Yeah, I thought that very same thing too. It still amazes me that that man has never won an Oscar. He should haven totally gotten it for "The Lion In Winter."
I certainly don't think Reese even deserved a nomination, but I think Joaquin was fantastic. When I first heard he was cast, I kinda wondered why, and yeah, he wasn't a dead ringer for Johnny Cash, but he sure made his voice sound like his, and in some shots he really does look like him.
Plus, I heard Joaquin met Johnny Cash before he died and basically Johnny approved of Joaquin to play him.
Anyway, if anyone in that movie deserved an Oscar, it was Joaquin. At least he was an actor playing a part and not just "Reese Witherspoon As June Carter." :p

I still can't get over a song of theirs being used in a car ad.

The commercial where two people sing "Friday I'm in Love" makes me want to cry. Jerks.
