Oh my gods. Am I this out of the loop? People go on in school about how far we've come as a society in accepting GLBT groups and people, and completely gloss over things like this.
Yeah, September was a rough month, as far as this goes. I think there was even a 7th suicide by a gay male last month, but I think it was unclear whether it had to do with bullying or not...but still...
It's a sad fact that the more open people become about being gay and the more homosexuality is prominent in the media and social consciousness....for a few years, harassment and bullying is probably going to be worse, until it finally settles down and more people realize that homophobia is just as horrible and bigoted as racism and sexism.
It's times like this that I wonder whether society is ever going to understand that people are people, regardless of anything else. Does anyone not directly involved even care? Gods, people suck.
I know...sometimes it seems like no matter how much we progress, people just don't get it. I mean, how are we hurting anyone? We're just existing peacefully, trying to live our lives. Yet they just can't stand that, can't leave us alone.
