I say get a new/used car, preferably a Honda or (forgive me) Toyota. 100,000 miles is a lot, and even if it's running fine now, it's gonna start nickel and diming you at this point. A good mid to late 90's Honda with 50,000 miles on it would be a solid investment and probably wouldn't cost you much more than the $3600 you'll get from the insurance company. You might also be able to sell the old car for parts. You might not get much, but anything is better than nothing. I know how hard it is to get rid of a car you know and love, but it'll be worth it to know you have something with a decent amount of life left in it. Also, Hondas ROCK. Okay, okay, Toyotas are damn good cars, too... I just prefer Honda. Very strongly. LOL.

I'm the absolute WRONG person to ask - as I've been driving my free VW Fox for over fifteen years now. Eep. Sorry.

Oh man, that sounds like pretty much exactly the same situation I was in a few months ago. Kept the car, now thinking it was probably a bad idea. :\ So...
