The same thing happened to me with overdraft fees. I was -$154 in the bank because of stupid fucking charges for debits of less than $3 each. I use Bank of America, so these kinds of fees are probably just as bad everywhere. I was also thinking about applying for a credit card through the bank to protect against overdrafts.

I just fucking hate the idea of being charged to access my own money. One of my overdrafts was from the use of a Compass Bank ATM to check my balance. Including the fee, I was essentially charged $36 just to see how much money I had!

Goddamn ridiculous. It really sucks having money taken away when it could be put towards more important things.
