Can I just say how completely, ridiculously sad it makes me to see all these pictures of everyone's new puppies they all seem to be getting lately? I guess this is how I should feel right now about seeing babies or pregnant pictures of people I knew in high school...but no, it's the puppies. And EVERYONE seems to be getting one! And then they ( Read more... )

You know what they say, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." Once you find the dog orpuppy of your dreams, your dog/puppy will be the most loved dog ever to have existed.
I will restrain myself from posting a Wylie Icon on this comment, for your sake.

Thank you. That helps tremendously. *sniff*

And that's very very true!

Oh, and I was going to ask you, since you have a dachshund yourself, and you seem to be in the know when it comes to animals and whatnot...do you know any miniature short haired breeders? Or any suggestions on where I could get one? That's what I really really want the most. So, if you know anything...let me know!

The place to go IMO is at the AKC site.
this ---> http://www.akc.org/future_dog_owner/find_breeder.cfm
is the link to the page that talks about both of the acceptable places to find a purebred dog, or relative of one if you go the rescue route.
It links to the AKC breeder referral page and AKC recognized breed rescue groups.

I also highly reccomend this site if you want to go the rescue route. http://www.drna.org/
I would recommend you do, since you've never shown any real interest in showing dogs, you just want to love one. Rescue dogs are perfect for that reason, all they want is someone to love them.

There don't seem to be any dacshund breeders in maine... but that doesn't mean that you can't get a puppy to maine. Many breeders do ship dogs, we had a dog shipped to us when I was little.
The AKC breeder classifieds are also good http://www.akc.org/classified/index.cfm. You can search muliple states at a time and they let you know when the puppies were born, but which size they are.

I still highly recommend rescue though. They will usually find a way to get a dog to you if they don't have any in the area. ^_^

Aw, Ash, I completely know how you feel. But trust me, you'll know when the time is right for your pup. You'll get the money saved up, then you'll find one you're absolutely in love with, and it'll all work out.

I'm sorry you have to wait so long for it, though. Before I got Callie, I thought I was going to go insane. It's really tough to go from an animal household to a non-animal household for so long, isn't it? I think that's the root of the problem, really.

Not everyone's getting a new dog! Due to leaving the house in atlanta for minnesota, I had to leave behind the world's greatest Chihuahua =(
