Whose country is this? A message for the proud and the few.
When is it ever a good time to say that you are a Slytherin and proud of it? Certainly not now, yes? Wear silver and green, or mention your House to anyone these days and you are met with scorn and suspicion. Is he a bigot? Does she side with the Dark- oh, I'm sorry, "You-Know-Who". (Honestly, just call him your Lord and be done with it). Do they hate me because of the situation of my birth?"
"They must. They are Slytherin. Let's hate them first."
Is it bad enough you get such treatment at school? Hogwarts, the famous three-legged castle? Only Slytherin celebrates the triumphs of Slytherin, while the other 3 Houses celebrates it's failures and mourn it's successes.
Ridiculous. And children are expected to be raised in this environment?
And what is Slytherin's greatest sin? Pride in the purity of their blood? Pride in the accomplishments of wizarding culture?
Salazar was never sent out of Hogwarts. He left, when he found he could no longer tolerate their ideas, the danger the other Founders brought to the school. In a time when Muggle persecution was at a grotesque high, Salazar made the decision to protect his students by not admitting Muggleborns into the school. A prudent choice. Muggleborns aren't suspended from the air. They're connected soley and completely to the Muggles that brought them into this world. To teach a Muggleborn about magic is to teach Muggles our most precious art, our greatest secret. At a time when Muggles actively tried to destroy us, it was a disastrous choice. Salazar knew this.
But no. A wizard is a wizard is a wizard, they said. So Salazar Slytherin left, and now he is seen as a villain and a bigot, when perhaps none of them cared about the students as much as he.
This is how the world is becoming. Muggles make up the vast majority of the human population. They are slowly but surely gaining more and more knowledge about magic, pressing more and more of their culture on ours. And for the sake of Muggleborns, we allow it to happen.
Those of us who are proud of our purity, our heritage, our magic are branded as bigots and villains.
But history won't repeat. The Dark Lord will not leave as Salazar Slytherin did, until a true balance has been struck.
Why am I telling you this? Because I know how you feel, and you need to know that you are not alone. Am I equating myself with you? No. I am a criminal. I am a murderer. I am also a soldier. This is a war, and there are always at least two sides to war.
History belongs to the victor.
