No, there IS a proper way - just because people do it the wrong way is no excuse - yes people are different but there is usually a best way to do everything to get the best results and thats why its taught that way - you wouldn't say "there isn't a right way to do brain surgery, everyone does it differently" - that would be craziness - I have seem some completely ham-fisted ways of holding writing implements and the appalling writing that ensues is evidence that they are not holding the implement correctly - why do you have so much emphasis on holding the implement correctly when playing golf or tennis for example if there isn't a right way to do things - we wouldn't need schools if people could just do everything their own sweet way
How do you know you're not doing it the right way eh???
and teaching standards in schools have fallen appallingly over the years - half the teachers don't even know stuff themselves - how can they teach children properly?
Although not so much the case now, it was at one time very much en vogue in the arena of the "computer programmer". These were the days when you needed a degree in electronics and another in maths before you could program a computer. Daft beards were also fashionable at the time.
If its warm enough for sandals you don't need the socks - if its cold enough for socks you need shoes that are warmer than sandals - it just makes sense - logical!
Oh yes - good one! - stupid people that block the way or dawdle or weave all over the pavement when everyone else is trying to get past - stupid indeed (see above)

there is no 'proper' way of holding a pencil, there are ones that are better than others but no proper way, each person is different

my way may not be the norm, but it isn't the wrong way either.

To invite is a verb "I am going to invite all my friends to my party"
The thing you get in the post or from the mouth of the person asking you, is an INVITATION!!!!!
"oh look I have a wedding invitation from my friend"
Why can't people get that right????? Its not hard!!!!
It drives me mad when they get it wrong
