same thing happened to me. first taste of real literature i ever played was a very simple arrangement of mussorgskys 'pictures at an exhibition'. then halfway into my career, played the tushmalov orchestral arrangement. now i will be wrapping up my first year of university with the ravel arrangement (by far my favourite).
ah, nostalgia.
