HELP!

Okay. I'm going to be getting an electric violin sooner or later and I need to learn the lingo.

Tell me everything you know about pickups, pre amps, amps, anything. What they're for, what they do, why I need them, etc.

Well there's allot of stuff. Maybe you could be more specific. First of all what kind of sound are you looking for? Are you looking to keep the acoustic characteristics of the violin, experiment with effects, or both? I can leave you though with some links to things I've found very helpful

(sorry, not as related to the post as could be) i've been looking at those julliard's 6-stringed instruments- my father tells me not to bother cause they're so cheap, they mustn't be that good.... so you'd say they're worth it?

There good for starters. I've heard you can make them sound pretty decent if you have a 31-band graphic EQ and know how to use it. The single channel ones go for around $100 I think. Haven’t checked what these things go for in a while.
