Ya, when I saw Mark Wood playing on tour with the Trans Siberian Orchestra, that was one of the violins he played. I got the chance to talk to him after the concert too -- he's a pretty cool guy.
yeah Mark Wood is very awesome. I ate lunch with him while I was up in Nashville for the fiddle camp I mentioned below, and the way he came up with all of his ideas for the electric violins are completely awesome. It's amazing to see a classically trained violist drop out of Julliard to pursue the genre of his heart - rock'n'roll.
I saw the trans siberian orchestra twice so far and that was when I fell in love with that violin. he's amazing to watch/listen to- always running around and still managing to make ridiculous music without missing a note.
That's not really the whole thing. There's a strap around the back, and I think a folding tripod arm that goes down, so that it's basically mounted to your chest. The idea is to let you run around a stage like a guitar player can.
What I think I am going to do is wait until my other is a proper electric guitar luthier and then con him into making me a clone of one of these sometime.
yeah dude, those are AMAZING to play on. Mark Wood makes them, and while I was at Mark O'Connor's fiddle camp last year, he let me improvise for about ten minutes on one of those 7 string monsters. He was telling me how he always used to watch his did make electric violins, and he joined in at a young age, and how he always wanted to play in a hard rock group, and thus the design for the violin came into tact within his mind. It's a really neat story.

They do all seem to be cheaper than the last time I looked, though.
