I'm getting an electric violin

Oct 30, 2006 16:21

I don't know what to get. I have been playing the classical violin for 7 years and am 13. I am on book 6 of Suzuki (is that how you spell it?) and my price range is up to about $600... Any suggestions? I'm in a band-ish thing (we have an electric cello) My obsession is music so...
Thanks!
Luv,
Cailin

the best one I've played is the Suzuki electric violin...I think its over your price range though :-/
I've also played one that was bought from Ebay, and it was complete SHIT. it was this one:

it didnt stay in tune, and the sound was really really bad. its very sexy I know, but..I really would not recommend it. at all.

Check the Craigslist for your area, as well as eBay and see if you can find a used Yamaha Silent violin. With a little looking, you should probably find one within your range. They're nice violins, easy to play, light and fun. :)

The Meisel Spitfire (any model) is a great one, and probably within your price range, depending on where you buy it. My favorite spitfire is probably the J2 (http://instruments.garyhendershot.com/Meisel_Spitfire.html) because it's soooo pretty. And nice sounding too.

Good luck with your search!

I use a Fender FV-1 electric. They cost about $500 new.

You can hear what it sounds like on some recordings posted on my website if you wish. (http://www.techix.com look under Music)

Don't forget you will also need an amp, and most likely some sort of effects unit as electric violin sounds very dry and plain without effects when compared to acoustic.
