Character's Name: Rain Jewlitt
Character's Age: 624. Looks 24. (Immortal.)

What form will your character's NV take?
It looks like a yellow walkie talkie with an LCD vidscreen (for those who know the series, he got it from Amy Evans). Similar to this:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-MH230R-23-Mile-22-Channel-Two-Way/dp/B001UE6MIO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309146072&sr=8-1 Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Rain possesses superhuman strength and stamina, as well as impressive regenerative powers. He has these abilities because he is an “Angel”, or in plain terms, a mutant bio-weapon. Rain looks human and retains his humanity as his mutation was suppressed by a Methuselah’s Cross embedded in his chest and connected to his heart. Rain is habitually discreet with his powers, and sometimes refuses to use them even when it is practical; however, when he must, he is capable of picking up and hurling decent-sized yachts with ease, surviving falls of hundreds of meters into solid ground, taking bullets to the head, enduring being lampooned with spears and blades until he is covered in them, and he (like a certain Snake from MGS 1) can eat a bazooka missile almost point-blank and live. The only two valid ways to kill Rain are either to crush his heart or behead him. Doing anything less will not kill him, and he cannot otherwise die from illness or starvation. He also does not age.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? As Rain was cured of his “Angel” infection during the conclusion of the series, the journey to Siren’s Port would “reinfect him”, giving him back his powers. However, this time, the cloud has several silver linings: Rain will no longer require Methuselah’s Cross in his chest to keep his infection under control and he will no longer be in danger of turning into a monster. This is so that I can feasibly roleplay him. Needless to say, once the first week goes safely by, Rain will be greatly relieved that the infection seems “benign”. After realizing this, he will be a bit more inclined to use it in small ways to benefit others or make life easier for himself. On the flip-side, it will also restore his immortality, something he has rather mixed feelings about.
Weapons: None.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
Rain’s history begins 600 years before the storyline. He grew up in a church orphanage with his best friends Freya and Yuca. Rain loves Freya, but she loves Yuca instead. And Yuca....well...Yuca is actually the spirit of Methuselah, damned to endless reincarnation while retaining all his memories and tortured by all that his immortality has robbed him of. In order to break the cycle for good, Yuca plans to wipe out all humanity so that he can finally stop being reborn.
At this point, there is a war raging in the background. In order to speed his own agenda and increase the war’s destructive impact on humankind, Yuca orchestrates the development of mutant bio-weapons also known as “Angels”. Then, he tricks Freya and the orphans into becoming test subjects in the bio-weapon project, moving them away from the church supposedly for their own good. Rain, however, refuses to go with Yuca and stays behind. This is because Rain is actually terminally ill and wants to spare Freya from seeing him suffer and die.
The war rages on, and one day, Rain sees a news broadcast showing footage of one of the orphan children, now mutated into an “Angel”, shot dead by the military. Realizing that Freya had been in danger all along, Rain runs the entire way to the bio-weapon research laboratory and successfully reunites with her. However, as they try to escape, Yuca appears and kills Freya before shooting Rain.
Yuca then operates on Rain, feeding him Freya’s “Angel” flesh and turning him into an “Angel” as well. To prevent the infection from completely transforming Rain into a monster, Yuca embeds a special Cross in Rain’s chest---connected to his heart, it regulates the infection, keeping Rain humanoid but also rendering him physically ageless and immortal.
After reviving Rain, Yuca gives him a truth harsher than death. He explains to Rain what he is and why he desires nihilism. Yuca despairs at life, while Rain values it, so Yuca wants to challenge Rain to an endless wager. Every time Yuca reincarnates, he will try to destroy the world. If Rain still loves life and people even after becoming immortal, he must kill Yuca each time to prevent total annihilation. On the other hand, if Rain ever tires of living, he can join Yuca’s quest instead. Holding a gun to his head, Yuca informs Rain that they will meet again in exactly 600 years. With that, Yuca shoots himself, leaving Rain heartbroken at the loss of Freya and Yuca both. From then on, Rain carries the title of “The Immortal Methuselah”.
600 years later, at the start of the storyline, Rain meets Machika, a spunky, strong and brave girl of 14. Despite the drastic differences in age, lifespan and experiences with life and death, they form a deep bond and come to love each other. On the specified date, Yuca is reborn as a child already 10 or so years old. He finds Rain, who confronts him and chooses to kill him, meaning that he still believes in life. In the ensuing conflict, Rain apparently dies after having his heart torn out and crushed. Yuca spirits Rain’s body away and leaves Machika behind to despair.
In reality, Yuca had implanted Freya’s heart into Rain when he operated on him, giving him two hearts, and it was also Freya’s heart that had been destroyed. After a year of searching for Rain, Machika breaks into the tower where Yuca has held Rain captive in a vegetable state. In the chaos that follows, Rain is able to break free of the tranquilizers and successfully escapes, although he reunites with Machika only after battling a new enemy, the psychopathic Dr. Folk, and enduring a convoluted love scheme at an amusement park.
Meanwhile, Yuca has moved onto his next plan to destroy life. He has reactivated a 600-year-old satellite laser that targets large cities. Rain and Machika travel to the island where Yuca is controlling the satellite. Folk, however, also wants the secret to immortality and takes Yuca hostage to try and force the answers from him. Rain willingly gives up the Cross in his chest in return for Yuca’s safety. Yuca berates Rain for the stupidity of his decision, but Rain replies that he always believed in Yuca and still cares for him greatly. Without the cross to regulate the infection, Rain succumbs to unconsciousness, and Yuca and Machika must join forces to steal the Cross back from Folk. They succeed in retrieving the Cross, but the surgery to reattach it ultimately fails. Rain can no longer heal and will eventually transform into a full monster.
As a last bid, Folk unleashes a colossal “Angel”, the Temprinion, on the city. Before fighting it, Rain assures Yuca that they will always be friends and promises to return and give Yuca a chewing-out full of 600 years’ worth of complaints. However, the battle aggravates Rain’s infection to the point of no return, taking over half of his body. Yuca chooses to intervene, and crashes a helicopter loaded with dynamite into the Temprinion’s translucent chest, aiming for its massive heart. Rain and Yuca are both caught up in the explosion and wake in Limbo where they are finally able to reconcile.
With Yuca’s prompting, Rain is reborn from the Temprinion’s flesh, fully healed and fully human at last. Yuca is able to make amends with Machika as well before he vanishes into true death. Rain and Machika return to her hometown, where they first met, and start their new life together. Rain cuts his hair and has to constantly remind himself to be careful not to do dangerous things anymore as he is no longer the immortal Methuselah.
Point in Canon:
I will be playing Rain from the series end, when he is living with Machika in her hometown. At this point, his story is resolved and he has no conflicts to worry about. Instead, he has been enjoying all the simple pleasures and joys of domesticity with his loved ones. Consequently, being pulled to Siren’s Port and becoming "re-infected" will be quite upsetting for him and he will want to return home very badly.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history. N/A
Character Personality:
Rain’s personality fluctuates a little based on the stages of his life.
Default: His default personality is compassionate, loyal, selfless, just and very people-oriented. To him, the world is made up of people and nothing else, and he truly believes that everyone's life is meaningful and precious. This sentiment is carried over to animals as well. In Machika’s words, Rain is totally the type to jump in front of a car to save a dog. He is also the sort of person to shoulder all his burdens alone in order not to involve others in his troubles.
He is laid-back and offbeat, as well as quite the spaz. On the other hand, he is reticent about his feelings and not naturally apt at expressing himself. He prefers not to take the limelight. Since he regards others before himself, he often hides his true feelings behind a dorky, goofy set of smiles and gestures in order to make his friends feel better. He finds it easier to reach out using actions, and his shows of devotion are admirable; once, he went so far as to plant an entire field full of white flowers in order to mimic the snow that Freya dearly wanted to see. Having grown up in an orphanage, it is a testament to the strength of Rain’s character that he remains so adamantly selfless. In fact, when it comes to those he cares for, it almost seems like Rain cannot help himself, and he can be incredibly brash and hardheaded concerning their well-being.
Pre-Machika: Prior to meeting Machika, much of Rain’s naturally light-hearted personality had been muted by his life as an immortal. Although still essentially kind, he is much more withdrawn and jaded than before and hardly ever interacts with normal people willingly, as he is afraid of watching them disappear before his eyes and leaving him behind all alone. His past also constantly haunts him, and it drives a wall between him and all others. At this stage in his life, he wears glasses to further distance himself from people and his sole possession is Freya’s violin, which he plays so badly it is said the heavens weep at the sound.
In the 600 years he has been roaming, Rain has accumulated the world’s largest bounty on his head, and he is constantly hounded by assassins and bounty-hunters. While he has no qualms about using his superhuman powers to protect normal people from these would-be reapers, in regards to his own well-being, Rain is apathetic to a fault. He does not actively defend himself with his powers, only passively relying on his regeneration to pull him through any injuries. Often times, he does not tend his wounds either, wandering about stuck full of spears and blades until he collapses. By nature, Rain is so focused on other people that he does not hesitate to neglect his own welfare if it benefits others. Rain's immortality has exacerbated this trait to a self-destructive degree. Often, other characters become greatly upset by Rain's blatant disregard for himself, which defeats the purpose of what Rain wanted to achieve in the first place. Nevertheless, he tries to keep innocent bystanders safe from the antics of the assassins and bounty hunters that follow him everywhere, and prefers confusing his enemies and fleeing to fighting them outright.
At this point, Rain’s caring nature conflicts with his desire to avoid the pain of losing people and this causes him to act paradoxically. Since he is someone who acts from his heart, he has a hard time killing it. He walks the earth to avoid developing human relationships, yet despite himself, he still reaches out to strangers with comforting words or encouraging gestures, touching other people’s lives if only briefly. To Rain, each life, no matter how ephemeral it may be, has innate validity, and reaching out to support others is therefore worthwhile. Rain does not think that being immortal makes him superior; quite the opposite, he thinks that since normal people’s lives are so short, it couldn’t hurt to help them in any small way he can, despite the pain it may ultimately bring him. Once in a blue moon, his habit of reaching out lands him so deeply embroiled in the lives of those he encounters that he ends up making true friends, even if he outlives them and never sees them again in their lifetimes.
Post-Machika: Simply put, meeting Machika breathes life back completely into Rain’s heart. He admits that he would have succeeded in killing his heart if it weren’t for her. Fortunately, she gives him the extra push he needs to reject the fate of becoming an unfeeling, lonely immortal and to face Yuca instead of giving in to him. With Machika’s support, Rain recovers enough of his old self that he begins to open up to people again and is much more proactive in using his powers for the special purpose of fighting for those he loves.
In the end, despite how hard Rain tried to keep himself isolated, it is due to his persistent faith in people that he even makes it through the centuries at all. The most telling example of this is Rain’s desire to reconcile with Yuca. Initially, Rain does choose to kill Yuca because of their wager, but as he understands more and more of Yuca’s suffering, he decides to save Yuca instead. Not only does Rain forgive Yuca for everything, but he also makes repeated attempts to understand Yuca and heal him. Ultimately, it is a combination of Rain’s compassion and Machika’s love that redeems Yuca and frees his soul from the cycle of endless rebirth.
To summarize, Rain is someone who derives strength from his relationships with people and who returns that strength to them in the form of unconditional friendship.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Rain will greatly want to return home, but once learning more about SERO and AGI, he will have no interest in their plans. In fact, he will be rather scared of being captured and experimented on by SERO due to some nasty memories. Most likely, Rain will inconspicuously wait and see if a third option appears, and in the meantime, he’ll be working and making friends.

[The only thing that comes through at first is audio, and it is quite apparent that the person attempting to broadcast has no idea what he’s doing. His voice ebbs and flows in volume as he mutters, randomly jabbing buttons until by some stroke of luck, the video turns on.]
Oh, it-I can see myself. Uh...Um...Sorry, this is the first time I’m using something like this. Can anyone hear me?
[Blinking, he raises the device in front of him instead of cradling it in his lap. It’s quite obvious he is unnerved by having to talk to an invisible audience, but he presses on when he remembers the point of this whole exercise, and his expression sharpens into seriousness.]
Actually, I just need to know something. I really want to return home. I’m sure there are lots of you out there who want that, too. Tell me, what kind of progress has been made towards fixing the Core?
[Here, his voice grows a shade darker with melancholy;]
And...can anyone tell me how time flows here...?

He’d felt too out-sized in the tiny apartment room he’d been given, and so despite the gray drizzling, he set out for a walk with the vague purpose of getting to know the area. Roaming was something he was used to and it gave him time to think about his options.
He had a month in the apartments for free and there was the Newcomer’s Fund the greeter had told him about, but after that, unless he found a job, he would be kicked out on the streets. Which meant he would go back to his wanderer ways and this little walk here would be a preview of his upcoming lifestyle. It was a familiar way to exist. He certainly wouldn’t perish from exposure or starvation, and he could eke out a living doing odds and ends as he had done for centuries already.
But, he didn’t like it. This whole...mess felt like he had died and been reborn into a dream he did not know, with only memories of his past life, his real life, to tantalize him. The irony fit well, but he couldn't laugh. He belonged with his friends now, and he had someone special waiting for him. Simply wandering around wasn’t going to get him back to them, and quite frankly he was sick of it already anyway. Also, he would rather not starve anymore if he could help it.
So, that meant he would find a way to earn his keep, keep his ears open, and watch for clues. Rain had traveled countless cities in his long life and he knew their threads of rhythm well. It wouldn’t be too difficult to pick up a trail.
He paused to rest for a bit, and was surprised to see a banner rattling on the chain-link fence separating the road from the pastures of the agricultural sector. It read:
(SCOTTISH) STRONG MAN COMPETITION.
1st place C$500, 2nd C$250. 3rd C$100, Runners up: Free BBQ.
The date and location (somewhere near Whinters Lake) were scribbled below the main heading and another line under that invited would-be participants to sign their names with the pens dangling on strings from the banner. Reading the sign, he could only chuckle. If Machika were here, she’d certainly laugh teasingly at him about this. She didn’t know it, but Rain had actually participated in quite a few of these competitions when he’d needed a quick meal or buck. She would probably disapprove of his “cheating”.
He smiled wistfully. Well, he thought as he signed himself up, at least when I get back, there’ll be loads of stories to tell you.
