Gwiboon couldn’t help it.
Eunsook was awkward at times and she could be a klutz and there was no way you could get her to wear heels and not break an ankle in them, but she was gorgeous with her pin-straight hair, her heart shaped face and her sparkling eyes.
That’s why whenever Eunsook caught Gwiboon’s eye and smiled that sunny, perfect smile, Gwiboon couldn’t help but blush and avert her eyes, mumbling under her breath as she twirled a finger in her long chocolate locks.
That’s why whenever Eunsook would pass her in the hallway and leave a lingering touch on her shoulder, Gwiboon couldn’t help but shudder and ache for those fingers elsewhere, doing what Eunsook did best.
Eunsook was awkward at times and she could be a klutz but her hands and her mouth were the most skilled, deadly combination that Gwiboon had ever come across… in her dreams. Which was a bit embarrassing, having fantasies about your female classmate. But she couldn’t help but wonder if her fantasies had any reality about them.
Aside from that stunning, sunny smile.
“Ugh,” Gwiboon sat down at the lunch table in a flourish, her flowery perfume wafting through the air as she pouted her glossed lips. “I suck at math.” She almost thunked her head down on the surface of the table, but resisted and instead propped her chin up in her hands.
Minjung sighed in sympathy and pat Gwiboon on her shoulder, “Ask for tutoring?”
“Everyone is so retarded and the guys only wanna get in my pants!” Gwiboon wailed, loud enough for a few guys to glance over and then hurriedly busy themselves with their lunch.
Taeyeon giggled, “Why don’t you ask Eunsook-unnie, Key? She’s second in the entire school!”
Minjung snapped her fingers, “Taeyeon’s right. I bet Eunsook would tutor you no big deal.”
Gwiboon flushed instantly. They weren’t best friends with Eunsook by any means, she was a Senior and they were underclassmen, but she was pleasant with anyone and no one could deny the shine she’d taken to Gwiboon. Especially the teasing. With most everyone else Eunsook was awkward and a bit shy, but none of that strange condition was present whenever she was around Gwiboon; Minjung said it was flirting but Gwiboon scoffed, why would a girl flirt with another girl?
Then again…
Why did it make Gwiboon’s heart pound?
Even so, whenever they met and chatted in the hallways, Gwiboon would fix Eunsook’s bow if it was askew, she would run her fingers through those pin-straight locks that sometimes got mussed as the older girl ran from activity to activity. Affection lingered in every one of her touches and her actions unbeknownst to her, and she especially didn’t see the glances that Eunsook would give her back as Gwiboon trotted off to her next class, curly pigtails bouncing.
“Oh there she is, you can ask her!” Taeyeon suddenly said, as she pointed and then started waving her pretty little hands. “Eunsook-unnie! Unnie! Over here!”
Eunsook had been walking with her books in front of her supple chest, and as soon as she saw Taeyeon waving her over, she smiled brightly and dropped her books down to in front of her waist as she walked over and reached down to pat Taeyeon’s head affectionately.
“What’s up?” she asked, and she glanced at the occupants of the table, her eyes landing on Gwiboon and lingering for a moment, making the younger girl flush, before returning her gaze to Taeyeon. “Need me for something?”
“I don’t,” Taeyeon shook her head and pointed to Gwiboon, “but unnie does. She’s going to flunk math if she doesn’t pass the next test!”
“Taeyeon!” Gwiboon hissed, glaring at the maknae before smiling sweetly up at Eunsook, who had a fine brow arched in amusement. “It’s really not that big,” Gwiboon waved a hand. “I mean… I just. Could use the extra boost.”
Eunsook giggled softly, that infectious giggle that showed that she wasn’t making fun of you but merely finding something you were doing cute. It was an affectionate giggle and Gwiboon blushed lightly and hung her head, fiddling with one of her long chocolate curls.
“If…” Gwiboon mumbled, training her eyes on the table. God, did she hate asking for help. “If you want to, unnie.”
“I’d love to,” Eunsook said a lot quicker than anticipated, and Gwiboon glanced up sharply, seeing a light dust on the others’ cheeks that definitely wasn’t make-up. “I’ll meet you after school, I live close to here.”
Gwiboon nodded her consent, and Eunsook gave a radiant smile to the table before she turned around and walked away, skirt swishing around her honey thighs and her hair flowing down her back in a satiny black wave.
This time, Gwiboon did thunk her head on her table as she let out a frustrated whine.
--
After school Gwiboon leaned against the school gates, satchel over her shoulder as she gripped onto the strap, kicking her foot against the ground idly. Eunsook was late by about five minutes; school had gotten out ten minutes ago, where could she be? Huffing, Gwiboon pulled out her compact and checked her make-up out of nervous habit; her gloss was shiny, her feline eyes were lined perfectly, her mascara fanned thickly, her high cheekbones a soft pink.
She snapped her compact shut, and nearly had a heart attack when Eunsook was standing right in front of her. Gasping, Gwiboon clutched at her uniform shirt over her heart dramatically, before rolling her eyes.
“Aish, you scared me,” the brunette said, and Eunsook only smiled.
“Sorry I was late,” she said, but she didn’t offer an excuse as to why she was late, before she started to walk. “C’mon, I live about five blocks away from here.”
Gwiboon followed, although she really wanted to know why Eunsook was late meeting her - no one was late meeting the Almighty Key - but she kept her trap shut as they walked along the sidewalks, the sunny afternoon putting everything in a soft haze. Gwiboon glanced over Eunsook, and really, the girl had a smile permanently plastered on her face and it was just… charming.
Smiling to herself, Gwiboon tensed as Eunsook linked their arms, their limbs swaying with the sashay of their hips as they walked. She forced the blush off of her cheeks and acted natural; she didn’t know why she was so freaked out every time Eunsook touched her. Taeyeon hung onto her like a leech and she and Minjung often got in little slapping wars but with Eunsook it just felt… different.
And that didn’t count the times that Gwiboon sometimes got distracted by messy hair or smeared eyeliner because of course she’d tell you that those were just personal pet peeves of hers ok.
“Key!”
Both girls turned around, their hair catching in the wind as a boy rode up on his bicycle stopping behind them. He had an annoying smirk and two-toned hair and ugh, he was the most persistent of Gwiboon’s fanboys.
“Made a new friend I see,” Jonghyun said, letting his eyes wander up and down Eunsook’s frame.
The older girl blushed and averted her eyes, and Gwiboon put her hands on her waist and cocked her hip out to the side.
“Kim Jonghyun you’re such a louse,” Gwiboon said, turning her nose as high up in the air as it would go.
Jonghyun chuckled, “Oh, so you don’t wanna share?”
Gwiboon blushed, “Girls are not pieces of meat for you to drool over so you should really stop.” She smirked. “It’s not very becoming.”
“Yeah?” Jonghyun arched a brow and the corner of his lips lifted in a leer. “That skirt isn’t very becoming. Have you gained some weight, Boonie?”
Gwiboon raised a hand threateningly, Jonghyun only shrinking back a fraction, “Watch what you say to a lady!”
Jonghyun chuckled and took a few steps on his bike, before getting on and peddling around the girls in a slow circle. “I dunno I think you’re cute when you’re all worked up.”
Eunsook looked ready to say something, but must have changed her mind at the last minute. Jonghyun was too busy making eyes at Gwiboon to notice Eunsook picking up a stick; but he definitely noticed when that stick lodged itself in the spokes of his tire, sending him flying over his handlebars and into the shrubbery.
Gwiboon blinked, stunned at the sudden outburst from Eunsook, blinking up at the older girl, who merely clapped her hands and wiped them on her skirt, taking Gwiboon’s hand and carrying on merrily.
The brunette looked behind them and saw Jonghyun untangling himself from a bush, scowling at his ripped uniform and the shredded stick in his spokes.
Smiling to herself, Gwiboon laced her fingers with Eunsook’s as they continued towards the older girls’ house.
--
“This is so ridiculous I don’t need to know how to do a Matrix Grid!” Gwiboon huffed as she leaned back on her hands, the two girls sitting across from each other at a small table inside Eunsook’s bedroom.
The older girl tilted her head and gave a sympathetic smile, “Unfortunately you need to know this to pass your class.”
Gwiboon rested a cheek in her hand, her hair falling over her shoulders. “I just wanna be a fashion designer. That’s basic math. Not… grids and graphs and systems.” She pushed the text book away with a look of revulsion.
Giggling softly to herself, Eunsook set her pencil down and leaned forward, tucking a lock of chocolate hair behind a fine, pierced ear. Gwiboon blushed at the action and glanced up, seeing Eunsook’s eyes sparkling in a way that she had never witnessed before.
Her stomach did a flip.
“You are cute when you’re all worked up,” Eunsook commented, and Gwiboon only blushed darker.
“Oh, well…” she trailed off lamely, not knowing how to finish that sentence.
Eunsook giggled softly and picked up her pencil again, starting to work on some of her own homework that she had been writing out. Gwiboon let out a breath and looked back at her paper before glancing up again and noticing that once again Eunsook’s bow was crooked, and her bangs were parted awkwardly in the middle, probably from running her hands through them constantly.
Letting a soft smile split her lips, Gwiboon scooted around the small table and she knelt next to her unnie, careful that her skirt was covering her knees as she did so to prevent accidental exposure. Eunsook glanced up and blinked a few times at Gwiboon’s sudden close proximity, but the confused look was wiped off her face when the brunette’s perfect hands reached up and started to fix the bow, making a light clucking noise with her tongue.
“Unnie, you should take better care of your hair, it’s too pretty to be messed up so often,” Gwiboon commented, her long fingers pulling out the bow from Eunsook’s hair and setting it on the table as she finger combed the ebony locks.
“Why should I care about fixing it when I know you’ll come around to do it?” Eunsook asked, a small smile taking over her features.
Gwiboon blushed faintly and scoffed, “Because I can’t always be around to fix it for you. What about when you’re out with friends? Or when you’re on a date?”
“You and Minjung and Taeyeon are my friends,” Eunsook said, shifting her body on the cushion to face Gwiboon better, tilting her head a bit into the touch. “And you’d be there to fix it while I’m on a date, too.”
“Hah,” Gwiboon snorted and rolled her eyes, a decidedly snobby act but she couldn’t help it. “And why would I be there on your date? You can’t stow me away in your purse, I’ve seen it, it’s tiny.” Not that Gwiboon was bragging about her giant Prada tote bag or anything.
“Because you’d be my date,” Eunsook said, and Gwiboon’s fingers slowed to a halt in the older girl’s hair.
A silence settled over them, Gwiboon blinking her prettily made-up eyes in mild shock, Eunsook’s barely highlighted eyes lowering slightly. Gwiboon always admired the fact that Eunsook usually only wore a bit of mascara, that she didn’t need to put on make-up every day. Technically no one needed to put on make-up every day but it was that extra ‘oomf’ that Gwiboon liked to start off her morning.
But Eunsook… was gorgeous without it.
She had the sort of face that you could wake up to in the morning and actually smile at; a face that would be free of smeared make-up, of any sort of crust, of any blemishes or drool or any other thing that could be associated with an unpleasant ‘morning after’ face. She had the sort of face that you would kiss even if she had morning breath, because her smile was so bright and her eyes shined so brightly it was like nothing else mattered, and even a toothbrush could wait. She had the sort of face that Gwiboon was envious of, she had the sort of face that Gwiboon thought was perfect and flawless in everyway…
She had the sort of face that made Gwiboon fall blindly in love.
“Key…?” Eunsook ventured carefully, as if the silence was something breakable.
Gwiboon rolled her eyes, “You’re so cheesy, unnie.”
Eunsook blushed and ducked her head, but Gwiboon ran her fingers through those long, straight ebony locks all the way from root to tip, untangling them and caressing them fondly as she smiled.
“I’d love to go out on a date with you.”
The older girl looked like a kid on Christmas, and in the next second Gwiboon had an armful of Eunsook, the older girls’ thick lips pressing against Gwiboon’s own pouty ones, in a sweet, slightly awkward but enthusiastic kiss.
Gwiboon was pushed back, her legs untangling from beneath her as Eunsook laid her back onto the carpet, and their lips parted for the briefest of seconds before Gwiboon took in those plump lips, those wet eyes and that soft smile that promised so much more.
Gwiboon couldn’t help it.
She was done for.
