Jaejoong sipped his water, watching Yunho and Yoochun from the chair he was delicately seated in. The filming of "O" was long and grueling, the dance moves particularly articulate, and Yunho pressing that they wouldn't consider it a good cut until he felt that everything was completely perfect. And it was how Yunho was, Jaejoong knew, but seeing as how the oldest member was the one that usually took a bit longer in catching on, it seemed that the leader was almost always on his case. In fact, the whole reason that Jaejoong was sitting down while the pair worked on their rap, was because Yunho was getting frustrated with the blond.
Letting out a sigh, Jaejoong rubbed his brows and took another sip of his water bottle before reclining into a more comfortable position in his chair. He ran over the dance in his mind; Yunho made it look so effortless when he did it, how could he compare? Even Changmin, who was particularly giggly today for some reason, was getting things down. Why couldn't Jaejoong just bite the bullet and get down to business? Resting his elbow on the table next to him, he watched with slightly dulled chocolate eyes as Yunho and Yoochun worked.
"Jaejoong hyung~" Junsu and Changmin sat on either side of the blond with identical smiles, both in good humor with a glint of slight worry in their eyes.
"Why are you by yourself?" Changmin asked, taking a grape from the bowl on the table and popping it into his mouth, chewing on it and swallowing as Junsu spoke up.
"Yeah, shouldn't you be working on the dance?" Junsu's head tilted, and Jaejoong let out a puff of air through pouty lips.
"Hn, I'll work on it eventually."
Changmin and Junsu exchanged glances; Jaejoong wasn't known to talk in public excessively, but he always opened up to the members. There was something on his mind, for sure, and Changmin was a little apprehensive in leaving as Junsu stood and beckoned him to follow him away from the elder. With a small, reassuring smile and a pat to Jaejoong's shoulder, Changmin followed his hyung back towards the set, leaving Jaejoong staring at their backs.
Okay, Jaejoong. This dance isn't that hard. You're just intimidated by all of the interaction.
It was rare that the back up dancers had such an influence on the dance, but since they were now physically involved, namely touching him, Jaejoong got a little too distracted. The hands on his body made him uncomfortable, the lingering presence of the man behind him caused Jaejoong to almost break out in a sweat.
"Jaejoongie hyung."
Snapped out of his thoughts, Jaejoong glanced up and let his chocolate eyes meet with Yunho's amber ones. Though the other man was wearing a smile, Jaejoong still knew that he was frustrated with his performance.
"Again?" The blond asked a bit rhetorically, setting his water down and standing, adjusting the plaid material on his shoulder.
"Mhm. Again."
Side by side they got onto the set, into their places. Jaejoong, no matter what, always seemed to be placed in close proximity of Yunho in whatever they did. Interviews, game shows, music videos. Yunho always made sure that Jaejoong was right next to him. And it seemed that the leader preferred the older one on his left, versus the right. Jaejoong brushed those thoughts out of his mind as the music kicked up, and waited for his cue.
One, two. Touch, rotate. One, two. Pop, jump.
"Jaejoong!" Yunho turned around, his expression a bit flabbergasted. "When the hands go to your chest, your right shoulder pops up higher than the left. Not the other way around."
"Sorry," Jaejoong resisted the urge to hang his head and whimper in the fierce presence of their leader, and instead practiced the move while looking into the mirrors provided for them, making sure to follow Yunho's instruction.
"Better." Smiling lightly, Yunho nodded his head and turned to the director to instruct the music to be started again.
This time, Jaejoong worked without fail, and was congratulated by everyone. However, the touch of the back up dancer was lingering, the caresses Jaejoong knew the man was purposely letting loiter. Shuddering and taking the blanket he was offered by a concerned looking crewmember, Jaejoong sat back in his chair and sipped his water, staring at the ground. He should feel proud, right? That he'd finally gotten the dance down and correct, and that Yunho wouldn't have to scold him every time he messed up.
However... the events of the previous night flew through his head every time he closed his eyes.
Flashback
Yunho growled and pushed Jaejoong against the wall, gripping the slightly smaller man's shoulders as he forced deep eyes to look into his own.
"Jaejoong, I know you struggle, but damn it at least try!"
Turning his head away, Jaejoong licked his full lips and kept his gaze lowered.
"I'm sorry, Yunho..."
"Yeah." Releasing Jaejoong's shoulders, Yunho ran a hand through his hair and closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath before sighing and looking almost helplessly at the blond that looked quite shaken. "Hey..." he placed a hand on Jaejoong's cheek, meaning to comfort him, but Jaejoong jerked away and smiled up at his leader.
"I'll try my best, Yunho. For you." It's all I can offer...
End
Rubbing his hands over his features, Jaejoong startled slightly when Yunho clapped a hand on his shoulder.
"Good job, Jaejoongie hyung! I knew you could do it."
Jaejoong smiled, albeit a little bitterly, and nodded at Yunho. "Thank you. I tried my best." For you. Will it be enough...?
"Let's go get something to eat, hm?" Yunho said, holding his hand out to Jaejoong, who ignored it as he stood and started towards their dorms. Yunho frowned slightly in confusion, and brushed it off as Changmin and Junsu came over with smiles, Yoochun trailing behind them as they meandered in Jaejoong's wake.
Once inside, the four were seated at a table, eating and conversing, happy that finally the music video was a wrap. Changmin was happily eating and only offering positive noises when appropriate, while Junsu, Yoochun and Yunho were the ones doing the most talking.
But Yunho was a bit distracted, it seemed, as he kept glancing at Jaejoong's empty seat.
"Ew," Junsu made a face and pushed the bowl of yellow radishes away from him. "Jaejoong needs to come out and eat his food before it makes me sick."
Max reached out with his chopsticks to grab a few of the radishes, but Yoochun nonchalantly slapped them away, earning a pout from Changmin before the youngest returned to eating from his own plate.
"Yunho," Yoochun turned towards their leader, looking a bit imploring. "Would you please call Jaejoong for dinner? It's going to get cold soon."
Yunho nodded and excused himself, making his way towards Jaejoong's room. He knocked on the door, and didn't even wait for a 'come in'; it was pointless with how close all of the members were. He just wanted to alert Jaejoong of his presence. Opening the door, Yunho blinked and squinted as his eyes tried to adjust to the darkness. The blinds were closed and the lights were off, even the computer monitor. There was a lump on Jaejoong's bed, which could only be the man himself, and Yunho sighed and shut the door behind him as he moved to sit on the edge of the blond's bed.
"Jaejoong..." he said softly, reaching out to carefully place his hand on the lump. He felt it stir beneath him, and shook slightly. "Dinner is going to get cold..."
"... not hungry ..."
The younger blinked. Jaejoong was always up for food, especially his favorite dish. And he'd never secluded himself like this... Yunho was starting to get a bit perturbed.
"What's wrong," he asked, deciding to cut to the chase. Jaejoong always spoke for himself around the group, why was he shutting himself up suddenly?
There was a pause before Jaejoong said anything, and Yunho held his breath as he listened to the words.
"I can't... ever do anything right... for you..."
Blinking, Yunho sat back some and retreated his hand from the shaking lump that was Jaejoong. For me...? "What... are you talking about?"
"Dancing... acting... I never please you..."
Reaching forward, the leader tugged the blankets from Jaejoong's weak grasp, and bit his lip to stifle a noise in the back of his throat as he took in Jaejoong's tear-stained face.
"... taking advantage of me... because I can't do anything right..."
"No," Yunho shook his head, scooting closer to Jaejoong, who shut his eyes and buried his face in his hands. How could he have not noticed? He knew he was harsh sometimes, but... he'd made Jaejoong cry... "Jaejoong..."
"The dance... difficult... not used to partner... wasn't you..."
Biting his lip, Yunho carefully pulled the hands away from Jaejoong's porcelain features. "Jaejoong... if it was like that for you, why didn't you say so...?"
"I just... wanted to please you..." Jaejoong sniffled a bit, before sitting up and propping himself against the headboard of his bed. He brought his knees to his chest and hugged them closely, staring blankly ahead.
"Why, Jaejoong? You're so talented, you don't have to work so hard to please me-"
"Obviously I do, since you never notice it otherwise." Jaejoong bit out, turning his gaze away and resting his cheek on his knees. "You never notice if I mess up or do good in anything else, unless it's dancing..."
Taking a breath and leaning forward, Yunho wrapped his arms around the delicate man and hugged him close to his chest, closing his eyes as Jaejoong clung to him desperately while the tears started again.
"I thought... that if I did good... you'd... pay more attention to me..."
Yunho laughed a bit, shaking his head. "Jaejoong, you're the only person I pay attention to..."
Jaejoong sniffled, and Yunho continued.
"You never noticed? The touches, the caresses, the hugs, the gestures, the words...?"
Pulling back, Jaejoong blinked his large, watery eyes up at Yunho. "... I just... it's how we all are, I didn't... think..."
Yunho smiled and pressed their foreheads together, looking at Jaejoong's lovely eyes. "Jaejoong... start using that pretty head of yours." When Jaejoong's brow furrowed, Yunho pressed his lips to the smooth forehead and ran his fingers down the blond's jawline. "I love you, silly. That's why I want you to work hard, so you can be the best you can be."
Returning the smile, even if it was just a faint hint, Jaejoong nodded and let his lips part as he spoke. "Finally, I did something right..."
"You've done everything right all along." Yunho winked. "I was just pushing you in the right direction."
