key couldn't believe it. first of all, jonghyun was just being a huge fucking dick. second of all, he was being a dick because of a girl. and third of all, he was just a dick ok. no more explanations needed. and key had been on his phone texting dongwoon, who was on the other side of the field, asking him if he wanted him to bring him a cup of water and before he could get the other 91er's reply, jonghyun had snatched key's phone and ran off with it.
this wouldn't have been a problem if jonghyun hadn't been basically ignoring key for the whole event. jonghyun had been fine going and playing with everyone else under the bright sun, save for shinee themselves, and they were all quite terribly miffed about it. key in particular. what gave his best friend the right to just ignore him? so he didn't care. he was a jealous bitch and getting back at jealousy with jealousy was something that key was number one at. so he had been hanging out with the 91 line, with minho, with taemin and sometimes onew and he was just ignoring jonghyun in turn.
apparently jonghyun couldn't take what he dished out, because about ten minutes after key had made eye contact with jonghyun and completely disregarded him in favor of his cell phone, jonghyun had ran up and stole said object and dashed off with it.
key couldn't yell, he couldn't scream or run after jonghyun. jonghyun had that stupid towel on his head and he ran way faster than key could even attempt, and he made his way onto the unused track and key just stood with his hands on his hips, glaring daggers at the man's back, hoping that he would spontaneously combust into flames.
"yo!" dongwoon came up behind key and pat his shoulder, smiling lightly. "did you get my text?"
"no," key snapped, still glaring after jonghyun, who had slowed his gait and turned around to see why key wasn't following him. key suddenly smiled, once he had jonghyun's attention, and looped an arm around dongwoon's shoulders. "should we go share an umbrella?"
dongwoon, a bit unsure but never one to question key's motives, nodded.
as they were walking over to a clear area, dongwoon said he'd go ask one of his hyungs for an umbrella. key nodded and fixed his hair and he heard jonghyun calling after him; key glanced over his shoulder to see jonghyun holding his phone out, a coordi nuna fixing his sign that had gotten askew with his sudden burst of energy.
key reached out to take his phone, turning his head away disinterestedly, not even bothering to say anything to jonghyun. he could see the pout on jonghyun's face anyway, and he rolled his eyes as he tried to tug his phone out of jonghyun's grip.
"give me my phone," key said flatly.
"give me your attention," jonghyun whined, the coordi nuna practically jogging to keep up with their brisk strides - key's strides in an attempt to shake the older boy, jonghyun's strides to desperately keep up. "look, i'm sorry ok?"
key stopped walking and turned on jonghyun, by now pushing the audience of fans far, far from his mind. "sorry? you're sorry? for christs' sake jonghyun you've been paying attention to everyone else except for me!"
jonghyun's head tilted in the way it usually did when he was trying to reconcile with a friend, "kibummie ah, i've just been busy."
key wrinkled his nose, "when you're less busy then you can have my attention. wouldn't wannt butt into your schedule or anything."
it was a juvenile argument but jonghyun's fingers finally let go of key's phone, his gait slowing and the coordi nuna taking a relieved breath as she finally finished the strings of jonghyun's sign and jogged off to go help taemin. key kept walking as jonghyun stopped, his jaw tight, teeth clenched.
"i'll take you to coffee later!" jonghyun called after the rapper.
key let out a huff, "fine!"
the most complicated arguments had the simplest fixes, sometimes. even though they both knew key was going to order an expensive coffee and a pastry to go with it while rubbing salt in jonghyun's wounds, they were going to go to key's favorite coffee house and jonghyun was going to cater to the rapper in the best way he knew how.
