This is dedicated to you, Minho. From Key-nuna.
Let's tell the stars every secret we can think of... and wait for the man on the moon to tell us he's listening.

How they ended up at the beach in the middle of the night was their little secret. Fingers intertwined and hands swinging idly as they walked, Minho and Kibum let the fresh ocean breeze caress their faces as they came off of the sidewalk and hit the beach. Kibum stopped and unlocked their hands, kneeling down to take off his shoes and socks, holding them in his free hand and chuckling lightly, loving the feel of the sand in his toes as they continued to walk.

“Ah, this is so nice~” Key said as he exhaled and tilted his head back to look at the stars, before his eyes took in the pitch black of the rolling ocean.

“You know Kibummie, there are small crabs on the shore at night,” Minho said, glancing down at Key’s bare feet with a teasing smile.

“Are there?” Kibum laughed and shrugged. “Well then I’ll have to step carefully, eh?”

“Yeah, some aren’t so small though,” Minho said, as he knelt down and grabbed a stick, starting to dig in the sand.

Kibum merely laughed and set down his shoes close to Minho, tucking his socks inside of them before he bent down and started to roll up the bottom of his pants. As he did so, Minho reached down into the small hole he had just dug, pulling out a small shell and peeking inside of it.

“Be careful, don’t get bitten by anything,” Kibum said off-handedly, before he moved towards the waters’ edge. He let out a gasp as the water lapped at his toes, and laughed. “Aigoo! It’s freezing!” Not that it should have been anything else on a decent night in April. He took a few more steps in, up to his ankles covered in the salty water, and started to splash around a bit.

“Is it?” Minho asked, glancing up and cocking a brow with a bemused smile. “Strange, for the ocean to be cold in the Spring time, Kibum.” He set the down the shell that he was examining, before taking off his shoes and socks as well, before he ambled over to Key. “Aish, it is cold.”

“Of course it is, Mr. The-Ocean-Won’t-Be-Warm-In-The-Spring,” Kibum said, with a roll of his eyes and a playful nudge towards the taller boy.

Minho stumbled slightly, and then glanced down at his legs - he had forgotten to roll his pantlegs up. “Agh, damn it.”

Kibum glanced over, then smiled and crouched down, his fingers working the denim of Minho’s legs up around his calves. “Silly.”

Making his best pouty face, Minho folded his arms over his chest. “I didn’t think I was coming out this far.”

“Don’t be a baby about it, Minho-yah,” Kibum said as he finished rolling Minho’s pantlegs up, before he straightened and gently patted the slightly younger boy on the shoulder.

Minho’s response was sticking his tongue out, to which Key merely laughed.

“Don’t tempt me, mister.” He reached out and poked the taller boys’ cheek. “That tongue of yours is sinister.”

“Hush!” Minho rolled his eyes, then bent down to splash some water up at Kibum, who laughed and yelped, flailing a bit before he bent down to return the treatment. Minho gently pushed Kibum, but in the wet sand beneath their feet the smaller rapper lost his footing and stumbled, grabbing onto Minho’s shirt to keep himself upright.

Minho laughed and grabbed onto Key’s elbows, but as he steadied the slightly older boy, Kibum got a dangerous glint in his eyes, before pushing all of his strength at Minho, knocking them both back towards the beach. Minho let out a sharp cry followed by a laugh as Kibum landed atop of him, the air rushing out of his lungs unexpectedly.

“Augh, what the heck was that for?” Minho asked as he reflexively grabbed Kibum by the hips, steadying him on his lap.

Kibum sat up with a smug smile, “When you push you must expect a shove in return.”

“I didn’t think you were the philosophical type,” Minho mumbled, but Key merely laughed.

“If I hurt you, I can kiss it better~”

“I’m fine, nice try though.” Minho sent a wink at Kibum, but missed the way that the older boy’s breath caught in his throat.

He probably missed it because Kibum covered it up with a huff, as he sat back and tapped on Minho’s nose. “Oh, Minho.”

Before he could say anything else, Minho sat up and pushed the older boy back onto the sand, Kibum letting out a grunt as his back connected with the sand.

“Woops,” Minho said with a chuckle. “You ok?”

Kibum sat up and scrunched his nose up cutely, trying to look mad, but ultimately failed as he let out a giggle and waved a hand. “You have to treat your hyung gently, Minho. I might break~”

“You’re not gonna break, you have everyone fooled,” Minho said with a smile, tilting his head. “You’re tougher than people believe.”

“Shhh,” Kibum reached out and put his finger against Minho’s lips, quieting the younger boy. “If you speak too loud the stars could hear my secrets.”

Minho gently moved Kibum’s finger away from his mouth, “Kibummie, the stars already know a million secrets, a few more won’t hurt.”

Kibum grinned and laid back, pulling Minho alongside him. He snuggled closely into the taller boy’s side, and pointed up at the stars.

“Don’t you wonder if one day they’ll burst from all of the secrets they hold?” Kibum asked.

“They do,” Minho answered, which surprised Key because he wasn’t expecting one in the first place. “And then new ones are born in its place for new secrets.”

“I wonder where those secrets go when the stars burst,” Kibum wondered aloud, tilting his head a bit. His hand was still raised to point at the sky, but he closed his fingers into a fist. “Do you think that when the star bursts, it turns into a confession?”

“I don’t know,” Minho answered, and really Kibum was surprised that the other boy was even talking to him about stars and confessions and secrets. Minho didn’t seem the deep type. Then again, neither did Key. “Do you have something to conefess?” Minho asked the question this time, turning to glance at the other rapper.

Kibum let out a smile and let his hand drop into the sand, his fingers filtering through the cold granules slowly. “I do. Do you think I should tell the stars?”

“They’re listening,” Minho prompted.

Were they even talking about stars anymore?

“Do you think that after all of the secrets I’ve told them, they’d believe me if I told them something outlandish?” Kibum picked up a handful of sand and let it sift through his closed fist.

“Outlandish?” Minho repeated, and then shrugged. “With the things they have heard and seen, nothing is outlandish to them.”

“I’m sure,” the smaller boy chuckled lightly. “But coming from me… I’m sure they remember everything I’ve ever told them. Do you think they just listen, or do you think they sometimes give advice to us silly creatures that talk to them all the time?”

Minho chuckled and gently nudged Kibum, “They can’t give advice, they can only be an ear for you. It’s up to you to make your own path, Kibummie.”

“Hm…” Kibum turned thoughtful for a moment. “Then I wonder why we confess to them so much, if we still feel lost afterwards.”

“If you really want to get something out of talking to the sky, you should speak with the man on the moon,” Minho suggested, using his own long arm to point at the crescent moon that was their only source of light on the beach.

“The man on the moon, hm?” Kibum glanced towards the moon, and tilted his head. With the motion he felt the sand shifting through his hair and rubbing against his scalp, and it was slightly relaxing. “And do you think he’d respond with a wink and a twinkle like the stars do? Or do you think he’d make the waves in this ocean come up and hug me for comfort?”

“I don’t know.” Once again Minho shrugged, and he shifted to wrap his arm around Kibum’s shoulder, bringing the older boy against his side and slightly on top of his chest.

Kibum pillowed into the other rapper’s shirt and rested his cheek against his chest, feeling his heart beat and listening to the breathing as he glanced up at the stars, at the moon, and then to the blackness of the ocean.

“Maybe… I’ll just keep things to myself,” he decided, speaking softly.

“Maybe you don’t need to say anything at all to get your point across.”

The smaller boy’s cheeks flushed lightly and he closed his eyes, nuzzling into Minho’s chest with a smile as he let his arm drape over Minho’s stomach.

“Maybe you’re right, Mino.”
