Ah, but I'm afraid I must. After all, Vir said in Sic Transit Vir that by that point, he hadn't gotten past one. *eg*

I finally made it back here to read this. It's wonderful: the images of Ilia with the fruit and in the water are just gorgeous. And Vir is lovable!

Tell me about the Centauri words you use: brachiarte and aperto. They are basically Italian, which matches the sound and feel of Centauri names. Is this a fan convention, something you decided on, or canon?

Brachiarte is an LJ fan convention that started with andrastewhite's Certamen (which is Londo/Urza Jaddo). As I recall, she looked up either the Italian or the Latin word for tentacle to come up with the word.

Regarding aperto: Since we Centauriphiles have principally been writing slash or non-explicit het, this is the first time the need to mention the brachiarte's counterpart has arisen. Realizing that I needed it, I used andrastewhite's procedure: I looked up the Latin word for "opening" and changed it just a little bit. *g*

To summarize: No, the words aren't canon. JMS never provided the Centauri's words for their genitalia even though he did describe them in great detail. Aperto is what I decided to use in this story, while brachiarte has been fan convention (at least in my circle of fans) for awhile.

They make sense; literally branches and openings. :-)
