The inauguration brought my spirits down alot. helplessness or indifference are the two dominating emotions when it comes to things like this... next to fiery rage of course. I can't wrap my mind around how horrible this is. I have not been thinking about it much for this exact reason. i wish i would've gone down to DC. i wish i wasn't always on ( Read more... )

Hey Gaby! I LOVE Pablo Neruda! Have you seen Il Postino? It's this really cute Italian movie about the man who delivers mail to Pablo Neruda while he is in exile. The postman (il postino) is really shy and Neruda teaches him to open up and use words to express himself. If you haven't seen it, I would definitely recommend it if you don't mind subtitles.
Peace,
Ellen

Ellen!
Yeah, i've heard about that movie, and i really wanna see it. i love foreign films, and even though translations are not the best or most accurate things ever, they are all we have. i went to Neruda's house in Isla negra, Chile, and it was so incredible.
besos

I feel kind of guilty, because I didn't experience any emotion whatsoever regarding the inaugaration. Ever since the election, it was something that was inevitably going to happen, so I just kind of accepted it. It does make me feel like I am less of a revolutionary now, and I dont really like that so much. Oh well.

i would never think of you as any less of a revolutionary for something like this Dan Reedy, please.
you are one of the most interesting and original people i know. reactions are reactions, it doesn't make you any less of an amazing person who is really aware and active and bright.

gaby, i may be cool or whatever, but you are definitely one of the greatest people ever. just because you aren't in washington, it doesnt mean you are any less of a person or that you are doing less to work to improve the world.

in other news, i got these two guidebooks today, one for central america and mexico and the other for south america, and it made me really happy. i spent a lot of time looking at them. i think they will be very useful.
