meta - Decomposing Mozart? Decomposing Mozart!

Sep 07, 2008 14:44

Whenever you accuse a group of copying DBSK's Tri-Angle, Mozart decomposes some more. Please, think of Mozart.

That is the not very witty catchphrase of this rant/meta. Many thanks to muu_chan for her ever frequent complaints of: "[Insert Band Name Here] has been accused of copying DBSK's Tri-Angle again" which spawned this. Oh, and SNSD performing Shinhwa's T.O.P., because man, how can you sit through that song? I mean, sure, the dancing is cool, and the singing is nice, but the melody! Seriously.

Exhibition A: Mozart - Symphony No. 40, First Movement.

Now, wasn't that vaguely familiar? Especially near around 5 minutes. Yup. Wow. That sounded very familiar. That was Symphony No. 40 in G minor, KV. 550, one of his two minor key symphonies (there's possibly a third), the second being the 25th, also very popular. Completed 25 July 1788, this symphony influenced Beethoven (possibly his fifth symphony) and Schubert.

Exhibit B: TVXQ - Tri-angle

This is the ever popular song Tri-angle (from the Tri-angle) feat. BoA and the Trax. Released October 14th, 2004, this is... a very popular song, seeing as it's a DBSK song which means that 800,000+ people know this song. Additionally, somehow, people insist that Mozart copied this song. Amazing. (Note: this is what I've heard from a friend, so please take with a grain of salt [or two!])

Exhibition C: S.H.E. (Taiwanese Girl Group) - 不想長大 (Don't Wanna Grow Up)

This is a song from Taiwanese Group S.H.E., a very popular girl group that's been around since 2001 (their ages are from 25-27 as of now, so they're really not that young). They're Taiwan's most popular girl group (the most popular female artist is Jolin Tsai). This is one of their songs from their album Once Upon a Time, released November 25, 2005. No, they did not copy DBSK. In fact, they didn't even infringe on Mozart's rights. Mozart is in public domain because he's been dead for over 50 years.

Exhibit D: Mario & Nesty - Never Say Goodbye

This is the theme song to Korean drama My Girl, which was aired from December 14th, 2005 to Febuary 2, 2006. Again, they did not copy anybody except for Mozart, who well, being dead for over 50 years, is in public domain.

Conclusion:

I don't think it's necessary to point out the similarities between these songs. It's fairly obvious. Additionally, with the dates, I think it's clear who wrote the melody first. (Mozart, if you feel the need for prompting.) I'm guessing that S.H.E. and Mario & Nesty decided to see if they could imitate DBSK's relatively great success with copying Mozart or they all simply decided to copy Mozart's 40th, which is an excellent symphony. Mozart, of course, is brilliant anyways. Though to be honest, copying classical music results in massive popularity. Just look at Shinhwa's T.O.P!

So please, spread the Mozart love! Let everybody know about Mozart's amazing 40th symphony, which has influenced many different songs!

Know any more? Feel free to share.

Title from a very bad Beethoven joke.
