Roy is inordinately fond of thermite demos. There's something about the fire and heat and light that calls to him, and so he takes advantage of his position as Vice President of Chemical Demonstrations and Outreach to perform thermite demos as often as possible. Unfortunately for sophomore Edward Elric, Roy doesn’t believe in letting underclassmen named Edward Elric touch magnesium, which barely makes a flash (“You understate the dangers all the time,” Hawkeye says blandly. “That’s unfair,” Ed complains. “You let Al do an acetylene demo last month during National Chemistry Week. Al’s younger than me and acetylene makes a fireball.”
Roy smirks. “Ah, but there’s a difference between you and Alphonse.”
Ed glares. “And what is this difference?”
“Alphonse was tall enough to see over the cart.”
Ed gapes for a second before he shouts, “Who are you calling a microscopic bug that you can’t even see?”
