I'm always a bit hesitant in my labels, because this isn't a traditionally angst fic--which really are more about fears and anxieties--but to label this simply as gen and AU doesn't quite accurately portray the fact that it's structured (at least in it's original rough drafts) as a tragedy--in traditional Shakespearean format--and the entire piece is meant to be a slow, sorrowful look into a different shape of KAT-TUN.
And yes, I am fully aware that Kame is not portrayed in a positive light in Higher Road--this is deliberate, as he isn't given much of a voice, and when he is given a voice, it's short and fades out. Kame's point of view and justifications are completely null in this story, though after some consideration I've realized that there needs to be other viewpoints to balance out this clearly biased one, so eventually a Kame-pov and Ueda-pov may be joining this. Maybe, as I have no idea how my schedule would allow me to write.
