Nitpick: quantum physicist is a very broad term; it is entirely possible to speak to a quantum physicist that knows very little about string theory.

(I am avoiding watching the confirmation hearings, because I do not want to hear Republican senators make fools of themselves.)

Ah, duly noted, but you see? I am to quantum physics as Republican senators are to con law: utterly and completely hopeless. (That is why I stopped watching the confirmation hearings after about, er, ten minutes.)

... it took me a couple of minutes to figure out that con law = constitutional law. Am going to blame that on being tired, although it may have something to do with that I know about as much about law as you know quantum physics.

Hehe, no worries -- my knowledge of law is rather limited too, though there was a time I could have discussions about the Equal Protection Clause (but that was years ago >.>), and I imagine it would be even more so if a handful of my friends weren't Supreme Court buffs!

I just woke up and Kyl is apparently attack Obama. A good standard: If you are the one who needs to be confirmed and the Senators are talking a heck of a lot more than you are, you'll probably be confirmed.

Haha, yeah. Coburn also devoted a couple of his minutes attacking Obama and muttering something or another about partial-birth abortion, so, yes, I imagine she really shouldn't have any problem getting through, all political posturing aside.

Reasons why I try not to watch Congress in session, ever. I understand the desire for Congressional transparency, but the result is that everyone comes off as even more idiotic than they really are.

On the bright side, at least I'm confident that Obama knew what he was doing with this nomination. And that right now he's suffering along with us. And that we're almost certainly going to end up with a new justice who's going to be the role model for little girls that Ruth Bader Ginsberg was/is for me. (Words do not describe how happy this makes me. Mostly this proves that I'm a major-league dork, but screw that. I LOVE GINSBERG DAMMIT.)

It honestly makes me wonder how our government manages to function at all, and then I have to remind myself that, for every elected official in Congress, there's a large staff composed of usually very intelligent and dedicated individuals who, thankfully, don't believe that carbon dioxide is a pollutant because, hey, it's in your soda! *facepalm*

(Ginsberg is awesome! :D)

(Congressional staff are pretty amazing, aren't they? They come in armies. I just wish that they came with a large supply of duct tape and with the authority to smack it over their boss's mouths when necessary.)
