In your case, some predators might want to isolate their prey from you, not because you are a source of support and validation to your friends, but because you are a potential world of pain against those who prey on your friends.
The wolf might fear loss of the sheep it wanted to prey on....or it might fear the sheepdog. There's a difference.
Either or both might apply in the case of a particular predator.
