You're probably in need of a new drive. Write is typically pickier than read. Wish I could do it for you! ;-)

I had a similar situation with my CD burner several years ago. What worked as a temporary fix was cranking back the write speed from 48x to something closer to 4x or 8x. It took much longer to write CDs, but it did the trick for a few months.
