Sci-Fi Book Recommendations?

Soooooo...

I never post on my own blog or on LJ, but I kind of figured that if I was going to get a viable response from anyone, it would be from the folks who might read this on the FLists rather than the scant handful of non-sci-fi-geeking folks who might have my blog in their RSS feeds.

Since I am completely not a sci fi reader I'd recommend the Betsy the Vampire Queen series. And just to add a Ray Bradbury comment, never ever watch the movie to Farenheit 451. I had a high school teacher that made us watch it as a punishment one day for being rude to a sub.

I've been a big fan of Larry Niven. My dad and I loved Protector. Integral Trees is also good and I love his short stories about Gil "The Arm" Hamilton. A guy who lost his arm and developed a phantom one as a by product of latent psi powers. I also loved A Gift From Earth which is about organ harvesting and ethical ramifications.
