Character Personality:
"Have you forgotten who I am? I'm Sheryl Nome!"

Sheryl can be a bit of moody and a diva if the timing hits her and it doesn't help that her personality is a mixture of extremes. Her emotions and mindset often swing like a pendulum from one end of the personality spectrum to the other, making her very unpredictable but nevertheless someone who's determined to take charge of her own fate.

One minute, she can be Sheryl, Galactic Bitch: pushy, demanding and taking charge. She'll pout and frown and tantrums if things aren't going the way she planned, the way she saw it. She's a complete perfectionist and God help anyone who didn't give that perfection she expects, especially when it comes to her performances. Along with that moodiness is her harshness when it comes to her words. When she doesn't like something, she'll say it to your face without sugarcoating it. Abrasively determined, she's not one to let anything or anyone get in her way of her career.

The next minute, she can be an entirely different person. Just Sheryl Nome, a normal girl who, well, because of her fame, was deprived of what normal girls do. She's a flirty, a bit of a tease and a prankster, a Queen Bee. She can be childish and yet at the same time, childlike with her innocence. Having lived much of her life in Macross Galaxy [part of it spent as a homeless orphan, a human experiment and then as "Sheryl"], she's never really experienced the lighter side of life: simply hanging out with friends, seeing the world around her, having fun like a normal girl. Sheryl does like shedding her pop star image once in a while [she even mentioned that she liked Alto because he never saw her as "Sheryl"] as a sort of reprieve from the demanding world.

And then, there's "Sheryl": pop star, idol and role model. It's the image that she takes care of very well as Sheryl believes that she had earned it through her hard work. It's from this that her confidence and self-assuredness as well as her belief that she can attain anything through willpower stem from. She's proud of herself, that she rose to the top from her hard work. That can sing and perform not just for herself but for other people. She knows that she inspire a lot of people through her songs and that motivates her to work harder. So in front of the camera, she knows everyone's watching her hence she needs to show a different side, one that's mature and someone young girls could look up to. It's also that professionalism that prevents her from letting her personal feelings interfere with her career.

Of course, it's not just about pleasing the crowd. She sings for herself too. Singing is her passion. As she had said once, she sings because she has to. Through her songs she's able to express herself. Hence in her every song, she pours out all her emotions and perform to the best of her ability, sometimes even pushing herself beyond that give it her all. So she's not at all the type of person who would have a lot of regrets.

But to say that she wears her heart openly on her sleeve, well, that's where you're wrong. She may easily laugh or get mad but much of her heart and her self is still hidden behind that mask of self-confidence. Sheryl has a lot of fears, including being left alone and being a nobody. She, for one, doesn't want to go back as that nameless, homeless orphan whom Grace picked up years ago. But nevertheless, it haunts her still.

Her own emotions as well are constantly suppressed by the need to face the world calm and composed. Her line of work as the Galactic Fairy, as an idol, demands it. Hence she's always stern and never one to let her own personal feelings affect how she performs, no matter how it's hurting her. For example, the attack of the Vajra on the Galaxy fleet. In front of the camera, Sheryl managed to keep her composure intact, speaking calmly but firmly that Galaxy would survive this ordeal. She even reacted rather angrily when the reporters assumed that her concert was to be canceled because of the attack. But of course, sometimes, her mask just breaks and she starts crying about it in the middle of her concert.

As for relationships, the closest ones she have are with Grace O'Connor, her manager, Alto Saotome and Ranka Lee.

Sheryl sees Grace as her older sister, as her one true friend and someone she trusts with her life. Grace is the person who found Sheryl in the slums of Galaxy [of course, we all find out that this was a big plot to take revenge on Mao Nome] and gave her the chance to become Sheryl. Despite the woman deliberately infecting her with the V-Type virus and turning her into a human experiment along with the other higher entities in Galaxy, Sheryl nevertheless trusts and believes in Grace as she's the one who had been by her side for so long.

Next, Ranka. Ranka is a bit of several people in one for Sheryl. She sees Ranka as a little sister, a good friend and a rival. Sheryl was the one who motivated Ranka to take the reins of her destiny and pursue her dreams of singing. Hence she acts like an older sister when overseeing her progress, always offering support to boost up her popularity as well as advice from one idol to another. If there's someone who truly understands the passion of singing, it's Ranka and Sheryl takes comfort in that. Still though, Sheryl does like to tease Ranka once in a while, especially now that she's noticing her crush on Alto.

And then, Alto. To most people who watch them interact, Alto is pretty much the troll bait of Sheryl. She teases, mocks, bullies and trolls him whenever she could - and that's a lot of moments really, considering how they somehow always meet. But Alto is more than just Sheryl's little plaything.

Alto is the first person who treated Sheryl as Sheryl Nome. He never gave her special treatment despite her being a famous pop star and all; if anything, he looks terribly awkward whenever he sees her face all over the billboards. And that's why Sheryl has grown a fondness over him. Because there's someone who doesn't see her as the Galactic Fairy, hence we always see her doing normal stuff with him: hanging out, school shenanigans, simply talking about things. He's someone she's most comfortable with that she's able to convey her feelings via telepathy in a straightforward manner [this came from the word of God, by the way sob].

Character Abilities:
Sheryl's a normal person through and through. Her voice and singing talent however is superb, to the point that a lot of people in the series say it's impossible not to hear her song in that galaxy. Her voice can also create fold waves [made even stronger by the fold quartz earring she wears] albeit less powerful than Ranka's. It also interferes with the communication system of the Vajra, insect-like aliens found in the verse of Macross Frontier, and confuses them. This was caused by the deliberate infection with the V-Type virus by Grace during her human experiment days. But in a Vajra-less world, it's a pretty useless ability.

She is also a performer and a professional. Sheryl knows how to act professionally in different situations and doesn't let her emotions get to her. She's usually calm and composed even in the middle of a crisis when everyone else is panicking. Instead, she uses this calmness to sing in order to ease people's emotions and reassure them. Sheryl knows that she can influence people with both her voice and her charisma. She's a very clever girl after all, though at times she uses this cleverness for mischief.

Sheryl has a bit of pilot training as well while she's studying at Mihoshi Academy.

Character Weaknesses:
Sheryl can come off as a diva and terribly unapproachable upon first impression. And that's not surprising. She can be arrogant, in your face and blunt when she wants something to go her way. And when she wants something? She gets it, come hell or high water, even if she has to get it herself. She can also be the most impossible person the get along with - and the most demanding, really: pushy, bossy and ever the nagger. As I have mentioned, her mood swings from one end of the spectrum to the other so you can't really predict her own temper [which is also something to look out for]. While in public she deals with pressure and, well, the world ever so gracefully - she has to since she's an idol after all - she can nevertheless go from a fairy to a complete bitch in a span of seconds.

She's also a very emotional person, despite her facade of strength and self-assurance. She has the fears of loneliness, of being left behind, of being a nobody constantly haunting her which stems from her, well, being a complete nobody when she was child.

Physiologically-wise, Sheryl is a normal person with no supernatural abilities whatsoever [her boobs do bring the hope and dreams of people]. She's also suffering from V-Type infection and because there's no cure to it, it's slowly killing her. The symptoms to this sickness is slowly starting to show as well.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister: Sheryl may be a difficult person to get along with but if there's anything to be noted about Sheryl, it's her professionalism and charisma that nevertheless pulls people towards her. When she needs to do something, she does it with a high sense of morale and motivation and doesn't let her personal feelings come into the picture. She doesn't like doing things half-heartedly and so, she motivates herself as well as other people to give the best they can for the performance or task at hand, sometimes even pushing the boundaries of what they can achieve. Sheryl believes that hard work pays off and that's why she works hard: for herself and for others.

And then, there's her charisma. Her words, her actions, her songs, her own beliefs - they move and inspire people.

Also, there are instances when Sheryl would offer Ranka help during her rise to become a star. When she recognizes potential for anything - talent, an opportunity, something that would help someone - she's not one to hesitate to give it a slight push, a slight nudge towards something she sees as the best course of action.

I see her as a Meister because of those characteristics. Admittedly, Sheryl wouldn't want to be controlled herself as she herself would take the reins if she could. But she's not above cooperating with people and motivating them to work hard with her if it means giving an excellent performance. She's strong-willed but she's kept level-headed nevertheless by her professionalism.

Meister Ability: Soul Serenade

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Soul Description: Strong-willed, independent, playful, charismatic, diva, professional.

Soul Appearance: Sheryl's soul would have the color of her hair - a gradient mixture of light pink and yellow as seen here [apparently, it's "strawberry-blonde"]. Its shape will also mimic the wavy form of her hair. On one ear, the soul will be wearing a replica of her quartz earring.
