o_o? Sakura short fic

This popped into my head shortly after I woke up this morning. I don't know why. I never liked Sakura. *shrugs* Anyway! I'd rate this about G or maybe PG if you don't like for people to die, even if I don't actually describe it at all... Enjoy?

“A Woman’s Strength”

All her life, Sakura watched from the sidelines. For a long time, she didn’t realize it. She thought she belonged there, without even knowing where she stood.

She never actively went after Sasuke, none of the girls did. They all talked about it, all competed against each other. They never let Sasuke judge though; they kept their distance. Except for Ino.

Only Ino ever touched Sasuke. No other girl had the guts to jump on his back and wrap her arms around his neck or actually offer him a bento box she made at home that morning. Everyone watched Ino from the sidelines, afraid to join her on the field. Sakura’s attempts to actually match Ino added up to no more than asking Sasuke to eat lunch with her, but only after they became a team. She thought it gave her a chance, but she never took it. She never joined Ino on the field.

She never fought in battle either. She stood uselessly beside Tazuna, pretending to do something, while Sasuke almost died. She stood uselessly behind Sasuke when Orochimaru first attacked them. She stood horribly useless when Sasuke lost to Gaara, and wasn’t even conscious when Naruto defeated him. Her whole life, Sakura watched her friends fight to protect her because she couldn’t. Because she was weak.

The most she ever did was fight Sasori, but she couldn’t even manage it alone. An old woman had to maneuver her like a puppet. Because Sakura was useless.

She took all the Kunoichi classes in the academy. They taught that a woman needed a different strength than a man. The strength to stand against different fears. The strength to give up her body in a way a man never would. The strength to do what a man never could. The strength to let others fight for you because a Kunoichi’s strength wasn’t meant for battle.

Then she trained under Tsunade. She taught that a Kunoichi must be twice a strong as any man. Strong like they taught girls to be in the academy, and strong like a man too.

Sakura took the lesson to heart-at least she thought she did. She learned Tsunade’s lesson, but never used it. Until now. Naruto lay moaning on the ground from wounds he gave himself, using the Kyuubi, but healing already. Kakashi lay on the ground a few paces away, dying. And in front of her, stood Sasuke. So close she could touch him. She almost did.

For the first time, Sakura stepped completely out of the sidelines, onto the field. She made herself strong. Stronger than any man could imagine. Strong enough to love Sasuke with all her heart. Strong enough to kill him.
