Don looked up from the game on tv to stare at the door as someone rang the bell. He sighed, his head falling back against the couch cushion. Truly watch him from the kitchen, a smirk playing on her face at his annoyance. Don stood up, tossing the remote on his spot on the couch before heading to answer the door.
“Simon,” said Don, slightly surprised to see his son’s friend standing outside the door. “Didn’t know you were coming over.”
“Hey, Mr. Detective,” said Simon, flashing Don a grin and heading in as Don held the door open for him. He waved at Truly in the kitchen who smiled back.
“Hi, Simon,” said Truly. “Donnie’s in his room. Do you want to stay for dinner?”
“Yeah, cool,” said Simon, flashing Truly and Don a grin before heading down the hall towards Donnie’s room. Don shook his head after him and went back to his game.
“They hang out way too much.”
“Right, and you and Danny only see each other at work,” Truly muttered under her breath. Don slowly looked over his shoulder and shot her a look.
Down the hall Simon had his hand raised to knock on Donnie’s door, when it suddenly flew open and Simon found himself being dragged in, the door slamming shut behind him. Donnie flashed him a grin and pinned Simon back up against the door, kissing his boyfriend full on the mouth. The two stayed there for a moment or two before Donnie finally pulled away from him, dropping his forehead against Simon’s.
“Hey,” said Simon, slightly breathless.
“Hey,” whispered Donnie. He pulled away from Simon and grinned at him. “You stayin’ for dinner?”
“Yup,” said Simon. “I love how clueless your parents are sometimes.”
“Don’t say that,” said Donnie, shaking his head and turning away from Simon, walking towards his desk and sitting down in the chair there, spinning in it for a second, staring at the ground.
“Oh, c’mon, Don,” said Simon. “You know your dad would never let me in the house if he knew about you and me. Hell, he wouldn’t let you leave the house.”
“You don’t know that,” said Donnie. Simon held back a groan and kneeled down in front of Donnie.
“We have this conversation almost every day,” said Simon, crossing his arms over Donnie’s knees. “Sometimes, multiple times a day. You’re sisters know, Carla knows-”
“Carla’s gay, Simon, she understands why I’m concerned about telling them.”
“I don’t understand why you don’t just-”
“You don’t have parents, you wouldn’t understand,” snapped Donnie. He watched Simon’s face go blank for a second, hurt flashing across it. Donnie shook his head. “I didn’t mean that-”
“I should just go,” said Simon, standing up. Donnie grabbed his wrist, holding him in place.
“I didn’t mean it, Simon,” said Donnie, the tone in his voice begging him to stay. Simon swallowed and looked over at him, his eyes glazed. “C’mere.”
Donnie pulled Simon back to him, letting the shorter boy sit in his lap. Simon leaned down to kiss him when the door swung open. Donnie and Simon looked up sharply to see Alice leaning against the doorframe with a satisfied smirk on her face.
“You two could have just been so busted,” she said. “Lock the door from now on?”
“Fucking bitch!” Donnie shouted after Alice as she turned and walked down the hall. Simon shook his head and looked down at Donnie.
“She’s right,” he said softly, getting up from Donnie’s lap and holding his hand out for him to take. “ I don’t want to get caught.”
