in this world of youtube and netflix and such, the only real point of a channel like AMC would be to introduce people to movies that they wouldn't otherwise have known about. The problem with that model is that much like news, people will naturally gravitate to things that are safe and they know about. Thus AMC had to change with the times

Also, TCM brought the rights to many of the "classic" movies that American Movie Classics (AMC) used to show; hence the shift to showing "classics" such as Catwoman.
