That is depressing. I just don't know. Orson Scott Card lives really close to where I used to live, so I remember talking to him after having attended a book reading he held for Shadow of the Hegemon. He had been talking about the possibility of an Ender's Game movie, and said that he had been fielding scripts for years and was being really particular about how the book was adapted. I can't believe that he would settle for something sub-par. I hope not, at least. A bad movie version would be so depressing.

i loved the book(s)

the man himself... not a big fan of.

though that is neat you did meet him.

and from what i know of him, he is very anal (in the good way) about his property, so maybe it'll be good.... but frankly i'm not impressed one bit by this news.

This is awesome news.

Now I don't have to read the book, rather now I can just go see the movie. :P

What did people do 50 years ago when they actually had to read books?

*shakes head*

why you surpised?

that they'd choose someone so bad to write such an amazing book?

or that i like such an amazing book by such a homophobe?

Do we actually know he's a homophobe? I've read an article by someone obviously lesbian (I think) who was very offended by Card, but I don't remember details. That was the only proof I've ever seen of his intolerance, and all his books (in particular Treason) are so full of tolerance that I find it hard to believe it's really the truth.

well i don't think he's affraid of homosexuals per se, more that he doesn't like them.

and i know he supports/funds a lot of anti gay (marriage) things in particular.

so i don't know.
but that might also because he does it because of his church and might be against his personal beliefs, but i highly doubt it.

your nervousness mirrors mine when i found out Disney was going to do The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Hm, I'm actually not sure which one would be worse...

At least the christian symbolism in the Chronicles of Narnia is more easily rendered in a Disney movie than the density of symbolism and philosophical themes in Ender's Game...

The worse one than both of those, to me, was The Neverending Story. Which, if you've never read, you should pick up at your earliest convenience, it's another book that's strongly influenced me.

i bet you like johnathan brandis in that movie ;P

hmm i guess i have to go get the book next time im back home then.

*smirks* I believe I had a poster of him in that movie when I was in middle school...

The book is great. I wish I could read the original, but my German's not that good. Michael Ende's other book, Momo, is great too - sortof like Pratchett's Thief of Time but with a less sarcastic tint to it.

ewwww. university reading lists *pukes*

then again.... it's actually better than NOT having anything at all :P
which has been the case before. and let me tell you, his 'slides' (and i use that term losely) aren't enough.

okay since you actually are a fan/read all the books.

which arc do you like better? Ender or Shadow ?
