iPod HELP PLEASE

Here's the deal.

When I plug my iPod into my computer, I cannot open iTunes.

When I open iTunes first and then plug the iPod into the computer it never registers it.

There is a serious miscommunication problem between my iPod and my computer. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Also--when I do plug it in, the screen saying "do not unplug" comes on and NEVER goes ( Read more... )

is your computer a mac or windows? i had something similar happen (windows) and ended up having to reinstall itunes. you might want to backup your itunes folder just in case, but i didn't have a problem with the new install finding my music on the hard drive.

not sure about getting the music from the ipod back to the hard drive if it's truly missing, i think it'll require getting it to talk to itunes first, then enabling hard drive use. one thing i did to work around only having the ipod work with one computer was to install winamp on our other PC, enable my ipod for disk use, and then syncing my ipod with winamp, thus creating another copy of all my music (well, except protected stuff bought from itunes) on the other machine.

i wish ipods weren't so tricky, i love mine but itunes and the whole protection/authorization crap really gets on my nerves.

There's a guide here for how to copy files from your iPod to the computer and then you can copy them back.
