I cannot believe she is dumb enough to actually play right into the entire thing. If you can't handle comedians taking shots at you and your herd, you shouldn't be in politics.

Generally speaking, children of a certain age are sacrosanct from being the fodder of comedians' jokes. The Bush twins were okay to make fun of since they were over 18.

So really, the only mistake Dave made was not waiting until she was a legal target.

I am. Dave made the joke. It lasted for 15 seconds and it was done. It was in bad taste, and insulting, but it was done. When asked for comment, Sarah should have said "no comment" and made it a non-event. There would have been no coverage and no one would have known that Dave said anything. Sarah ensured that what Dave said would be repeated over and over. Sarah publicized the insult to her family. Sarah made it a big deal. Dave is responsible for the initial sting. Sarah is an equal partner in the rest of it. Dave gets ratings and Sarah gets publicity, which is the fuel for her political ambition. Everyone wins1.
