Superstition in the workplace (was It happens only in India.)

Just read this today while flipping through unread e-mail. This was sent by a person (obviously) in charge of arranging for food & drink to all employees working in an office where I used to work in Bangalore.

This is outrageously hilarious!!!

And to think I was laughing at the roads being empty...

Well that's good to know -- I was beginning to worry that I no longer "get" the way things work back home. Did anyone bring this up in the office?

Everyone was wise enough to save their breath.
Besides, I don't think it is about things "back home". You'll find people on either side of the fence here.

*nods* I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thought that the decision was silly.

LOL. I guess this isn't special to just india. I've read elsewhere that the Jews are as orthrodox too. Apparently they even have elevators without switches since, during Sabbath, they aren't supposed to 'flip' a coin or a switch or anything of that sort.

Needless to even talk about some of the blind beliefs elsewhere in the world (china, japan, middle east or even the US).

... and what about this Obama and his connection to the monkey god?

In general, people are superstitious and bound to be fools. I think they are just 'scared' about potential consequences of not complying... and its always easy to associate two unrelated events.

The fact that I'm noticing this makes me worry if I'm slowly losing my connection to India.

And you are suggesting that I'd have been in complete agreement with the contents of the email in question?

Ditto. Nothing Indian about it, methinks. Unless you're just talking about the stupidity of the majority, which is a global maxim.
