She was halfway home when she realized she’d forgotten to get the 1% for Wendy.
And even though she was sure that, one of these days, she’d be able to convince her that Silk was really better for everyone involved, even the dairy farmers, who could just as easily devote their lives to milking soybeans as living, breathing, feeling beings, it was on the list and she did have to buy everything on the list, she really should go back and-
“Ow,” she said, as the man she’d bumped into grabbed her shoulders and tried to steady her. “Hey, hands to yourself, mister!”
“Sorry,” wild-looking brown eyes blinked at her, below ridiculously tousled dark hair. “You all right?”
“Yeah, fine,” she shook herself, registering the accent and kind of…fitted suit as the man dropped his hands from where they’d settled on her arms. “Jeez, dude, buy a girl a drink, first.”
“Excuse me?” the man looked at her as if panicked.
“Joke. It was a joke,” she shifted uncomfortably, blowing back a strand of blonde hair that'd fallen into her face, as he kept staring at her. “Did you want something?”
“No. Of course not. Got to run, lots to do, busy, busy,” he clapped his hand together nervously, and looked about ready to leap off in the opposite direction, before turning back to her. “Actually, got to ask, very important: have you seen a tall, red-headed woman? Very…loud. Probably yelling. Definitely…yelling…”
“No?” she offered, as the guy shut his eyes for a moment as if thinking.
“Too soon,” she heard him say, under his breath, before opening his eyes again and beaming a little weirdly at her. “See you around then.”
“Bye…?” she called out, as he jogged down the street and into a nearby alley.
