To make a long story short, one of my best friends (and a truly awesome person) was just in a very bad bike accident. She'll be okay, in the long run--no major head trauma or anything life endangering. But her injuries were severe, and she's looking at a lot of reconstructive surgery and her plans for the next year or so are shot ( Read more... )

Well, I don't think this will come as original nor anything, but I'm trying to get ahead of the HBO series and reading Game of Thrones. Light, thrilling and with a lot of pages. Can you ask for more?

Apart from that, I always recommend "Stars my destination", by one Alfred Bester. It is shorter, but still worth reading. Science fiction, in this case.

If there is room for suggestions about comic books, let me know.

My best wishes to your friend, also. I hope she makes a quick recovery.

Hey, you! Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know if she's read GRRM, and I'm not familiar with Alfred Bester but will definitely look him up. How are you liking Game of Thrones book/adaptation?

Goblin Quest or Stepsister Scheme - Jim C. Hines

Goblin Quest is funny but has action and Stepsister Scheme, he's making some of the Disney Princesses a little more badass. :D

That's a /good/ one, just the right tone. Actually, I haven't read Goblin Quest, only the first three Princess books. Worth reading/recommending?

Oh yeah. I was giggling through it. Granted if your friend had played D&D there would be more amusement factor but I still think it's a pretty funny book regardless.

You are EXCELLENT people! Sorry about the massive delay in response, my internet died the minute my computer recovered.

In horrific injury news, she is doing very well. She's healing faster than expected, though the period after the initial adrenaline rush was hard on everyone. And because she is both awesome and insane, she's determined to make it to a high-profile internship later this year, with or without front teeth.
