I was also not very excited about going to CU and I still am really whiny about it sometimes, but CU has a lot of great stuff to offer. I feel really fortunate to go to school someplace where there is a lot going on in terms of culture. Boulder & Denver (as I'm sure you know) have all kinds of literary/musical/political/etc things going on all the time and they only get easier to find (and cheaper to attend) when you're a student. There are so many student groups and communities on campus that you can really make your experience here whatever you want it to be. Maybe that sounds really cheesy, but there are a lot of really amazing people at CU/in Boulder. Also since Boulder is a community centered around the university people are really receptive to student input/participation. I can't pretend that CU doesn't have more than its fair share of frats/sororities and general wealthy assholes, but I also promise that if you look for them, you will find the kind of people you want to meet. Anyway, I hope that didn't come off as preachy
