But but but...antibiotics don't help colds and flu! Colds and flu are caused by viruses, not bacteria!

But we're supposed to get our medical information from CHAIN EMAILS, not the CDC!!!! Then, we're supposed to take that "information," combine it with prescription ads we saw on TV, diagnose ourselves without any training or tests, and tell our doctor what we have and demand he write a prescription on the spot for the pill we think we need! That's how medicine works today, see?

AAAAARGH!

No, what you do is find a good doctor who will listen to you, and then you listen to him/her. If you don't like what is said, get a second opinion; if the second opinion concurs with the first, admit you are wrong and not qualified to self-diagnose.

The sad thing about that article up there is that in the comments, there were less than a handful of people who knew that antibiotics do nothing to help flu and colds, and that overuse of antibiotics is dangerous. Most of the posts were "Oh goodie! Free stuff! I'm a dumbass!"

Not to mention the GROSS over prescription of antibiotics to soothe every mother's fears, which is doing nothing but making generations and generations of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which will make the flu seem like nothing. And why? BECAUSE EVOLUTION IS REAL.
