Did you know that I have a mig welder? Me neither!

One of the benefits of lending people storage space is that they leave a lot of things behind, and sometimes that's a lot of junk, and sometimes it's really really cool things. Very cool! I'm a bit fascinated with welding. I love the idea of just building what you need out of metal. Always makes me envy the guys on Mythbusters.

I think I must be a mechanical fasteners girl or something. I get the idea behind welding, how it works etc, and I know that it is everywhere and in everything, but I just don't trust it.

Yeah, it seems so many things can go wrong at once. I was thinking about it last night after I posted, and I thought maybe what I distrust most is the look of it. After all, if you're adding an instantly fluidified metal to something, surely that metal will one day get tired of your slack ass and re-liquify right when it can hurt you most, nej? I trust welded O rings for suspension work, but I don't trust the wiggly joins in my tomato cages not to snap open (you know, under the intense pressure of salsa-makings) and whip me in the leg as I'm walking by.
