Blaaaaaaaaahhhhh.....

Alright, so....I practice Aikido at the Rec. Center here on campus on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some Sundays.

We practice on about 7-10 of these 2-ton mats provided by the facility that are also used by the cheerleaders for tumbling practice.

These mats have never been cleaned, and have been in full use since the facility opened.

So this means that ( Read more... )

studying, sick

Mariah says that the workers at the gym hardly if ever keep up any of the equipment and that there have even been staph outbreaks from the weight room stuff. So be careful! and maybe they need a talking to. Otherwise, some of us could personally vacuum the suckers .. I don't know what you do to keep mats clean......

Nope--it's no fun. I'm feeling a lot better than I was, though--I had to go to the doctor this morning right after I posted this and it turns out that I have something of a sinus infection, so they gave me some antibiotics and sent me on my way. They're working well, and I'm glad for it, but the sheer fact that my sickness was caused by the filthiness of a multi-million dollar facility that is world-renowned for it's health practices is a damn shame. Staph traces on the workout equipment?! It has to stop, or more things like this are going to happen to more people. It's going to turn into an outbreak. :-\

This stuff cut into my study day, too. That pisses me off. I didn't get to get my coffee or go to the library all focused and pepped. But I did go to my mom's and let her take care of me. That wasn't so bad. ^_^

I agree with Aleytys... rxaisedonrxadio February 25 2007, 01:01:35 UTC
...we need to start vaccuming them before class; the only problem with that (as you've probably guessed) is that Ken always wants the class to begin right at 7, and sometimes the dumb-ass aerobics class doesn't leave the room until 6:55, which leaves us ZERO time to do something like that. It was so much better back when class was at 7:30 so we had time to do stuff like that. But now...nope. And also, that's not necessarily "cleaning" the mats...so I feel that what needs to happen is maybe one night a month we should try to clean them ourselves after class? It may seem to be for naught, since we just roll them over the dirty floor, but it seems to me it's better than nothing...

Eh, we'll figure out something, I'm sure. We can pitch a few ideas. :)

*sigh* that's disgusting... and the thing about the staph (or however the bacterium is spelled) is even worse. Will suggested we just by our own mats, since there are so many of us now. Not a bad idea.

I agree with that logic--and if we were to really go in and buy the zebra mats (or perhaps a similar, more cost-effective alternative), that would be most beneficial. They're not made of cloth (meaning that they're much easier to clean), and they could be all our own. I think we should really make that pitch.

I really think that we should draw more things like this to the attention of the right people, too. With this kind of bacteria floating around, more people could get sick, and it could turn into an outbreak. It's ridiculous.
